I hadn't thought of finding them by initial only in the workhouse. Census ref: RG 9; Piece: 1278; Folio: 95; Page: 6 Now I'm confused! in 1871 she is with Richard Barnes, and married him with the surname of Eyles in 1867 - but since I started this reply I have now looked at Wilshire BMD where Richard Barnes married Elizabeth Eyles/Comely. Would need to see the marriage cert to see which was her maiden name, but can't find here marrying under either before 1867. The 1861 census suggests the children are all illegitimate - maybe that is why Edwin's wife's father is mentioned but not his. Further research on FreeBMD and WiltshireBMD - Elizabeth Comely married William Iles in December quarter 1865. William Eyles died in March quarter 1867. Elizabeth married Richard in September quarter 1867. So: Elizabeth was nee COMELY. Children are illegitimate. Edwin's father's name is Morris? Sorry for the rambling!
