    3. Hi! Has anyone ever heard anything about the below mentioned book? Availability? Cost? Is it as good as it sounds? Thank-you! Jennifer Bessire Harvey The Stirring Story of a Western Community ---MESA COUNTY, COLORADO--- Its Pioneer Days and Its Wonderful Development - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A rare little booklet which was published by the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel newspaper in 1915. It is a delightful genealogy treasure to be sure! Many pioneer residents are mentioned and in some cases the book goes into greater detail. It contains 73 pages, 11 black & white photographs and various tables, etc. No index but it only takes a couple of hours to read. Written by the people who lived through the establishment of this Western Slope community, it is very accurate and not the typical county history of the period which were laden with "subscribed upstanding citizen testimonials" but rather an accurate account of Mesa County's early days. CONTENTS: * Introductory * THRILLING STORY OF THE EARLY DAYS * List of 1882 Electors * Items of Interest * Grand River * The Grand Valley * HISTORY OF THE PLATEAU VALLEY * The Unaweep * The Whitewater Valley * The Orchard Mesa * Blue Stone and Cactus Valley * Roan Creek Valley * HISTORY OF FRUITA * Bronk Park * HISTORY OF THE TOWN COMPANY (written in 1886) * Early Town Officers * Grand Junction Business Directory for 1886 * Pioneer Fraternal and Religious Organizations (written in 1886) * Important Enterprises of the Early Days (written in 1886) * The D&RG Machine Shops at Grand Junction (written in 1886) * The Grand River Ditch Co.
