    1. [COMESA-L] Western Slope - Indexes for books
    2. Terry & Teri Cleaveland
    3. To all those with interests in the Western Slope area of Colorado: I have another two books added to my lists of indexes. I have put these indexes up on all three of "my" county sites, Dolores, Montrose and San Miguel counties. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cosanmig/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~comontro/index.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~codolore/index.html When I have the time, I will try to get together the indexes for the last tow books we purchased on our trip to Colorado and Utah. They do not have indexes so it may take some time to accomplish this. If you have a source with an index for the Western Slope area, consider putting on these county sites. Thank you Teri Cleaveland --------------------------------------- Terry (Phil 4:13) Teri (Ps 37:5) Lancaster, OH http://www.greenapple.com/~pastor751 http://www.rootsweb.com/~mtwheatl/index.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnisanti/Isanti/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~cosanmig/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~comontro/index.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~codolore/index.html

    2. Terry & Teri Cleaveland
    3. I finally have at least four of the books we purchased, index scanned and up on the web sites. All three of Dolores, Montrose and San Miguel have new pages. Indexes from four books that cover the western slope area. I still have two more to scan and format, then two books to put together some sort of index as neither of those come with an index. (addresses for pages in signature) On each of the pages, there is the name of the store I purchased the books at. Of course, these may be available at other locations also! Good Hunting! 3. Dear List members, In the process of putting up pages with book indexes. We bought the books on our trip to Colorado in August. Dolores is up, hope to finish the rest of the pages tomorrow for the other counties. have some tweaking to do first. I am putting all the books we bought for the western slope area on each county site some of these overlap county lines, so a look at one county will cover all of the counties in the area. I have two more books with indexes that I am working on, and then I have two w/o indexes which will take awhile longer. I will let you know when Montrose and San Miguel are ready, but check out Dolores' pages now if you wish. 1. [COMESA-L] TURNER
    2. Good Morning All, I am looking for information about my Grandfather, William Holman Turner. I know he was in the Grand Junction area maybe prior to 1936. He had a brother Clarence. I received a notice from from a gentleman there who saw an article in the Daily Sentinal dated Feb 20, 1936. It refers to Clarence Turner receiving word that his brother William died in Missouri . William having gone over there late in the fall.(assuming the fall of 1935). William Holman Turner was born July 1893 in Grand Junction,Mesa CO. Married: Hattie Iceline Lawrence on 7 Mar 1912. My father William Henry Turner dob: 18 April 1913 Grand Junction, Mesa, CO. and another child but I am not sure if it was my Uncle Pete or not. Hattie divorced William and moved to Idaho where she later married a Mr Boyce and had 2 more sons. It was only in recent years that I found out that Boyce was not my fathers real last, not having ever been formally adopted. If someone has any info that will help me I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks so much for your time

    2. Sherry Gregg
    3. Hello friends. I was hoping someone on this list could explain a few things to this beginning genealogist. What exactly is a land patent? Was land sometimes owned by same person prior to a patent being issued? 'Homesteads' were issued in what acreage sizes? With what government agency could I find information regarding privately held lands, later purchased as part of a National Park? Thank you in advance for any help!! Sherry Morefield Gregg

    3. Janis: I'm from the Grand Junction area and your surnames don't ring a bell with me. However, I have been doing some research on the surname Wetmore. Also, Wetmore is a small spot on the map south of Florence and Canyon City (west of Pueblo). Couldn't tell from your message whether you were looking for New Hope or Wetmore. 3. Carol, I think that is an excellent idea, to have a roll call, especially since rootsweb is down. It will give us something to do-ha-ha. I am trying to "hunt down" cousins that were, when last we knew, in the Whitewater/Grand Junction area. The surnames are PENROSE ; Ann, married Daniel VIRDEN, Myraette "Myra" married Robert SHROPSHIRE, and Adella Delilah married Henry W. SNYER. Also; STRAWN, Emma, married Thomas VIRDEN, Whitewater, and-here I'll need someone to tell me where this is; Wetmore New Hope, CO. I couldn't find any of it on my atlas. Is Wetmore a town?cemetery? Anyway, I have Seleina STRAWN married John SHERRY and then James L.SHEFFIELD. I have received some information from Wynona and Joan-and do I appreciate it!!!!!!! If anyone can add to it, I'll be very happy. I want all the cousins I can get!! Janis

Our main list server, lists.rootsweb.com, has been down since this morning. Brian Leverich is presently hard at work installing a new disk and preparing to reinstall the operating system. Once that's done, Karen Isaacson and I will reinstall the mailing list software and run some tests to make sure that everything is operating smoothly. As long as the system is not working, we're also going to try to take advantage of this down time by preparing a new, faster server for that machine, which is woefully underpowered for the amount of mail that passes through it. Brian will begin building that server while Karen and I get the old one back on the air. We expect to have the server running again by midnight (U.S. East Coast time) and hope to have the backlogged mail cleared out by Sunday morning. Thankfully, we don't believe that any mail has been lost (only delayed), and all of the archives appear to be intact. Thanks to everyone for your patience. And thanks *especially* to all of the RootsWeb Sponsors, Donors and Patrons, whose much-needed funds make it possible for us to have extra hardware on hand for just such an emergency! -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative system obfuscator and hack-of-all-trades --------------------------------------- Terry (Phil 4:13) Teri (Ps 37:5) Lancaster, OH pastor751@greenapple.com http://www.greenapple.com/~pastor751 NEW!! 3. I think that this is just a slow list. If any of you have sources that you are willing to do lookups in, you might mention that on the list. I you would be willing to do research for anyone, whether you charge for your time or volunteer, you might mention that. I don't mean that we should get commercial, but if there are people in the Western Slope area that are willing to help, there may be others that are looking for that service! I bought some books while out there. I plan to list the indexes on the websites so you can look for your surnames. Will let you know as soon as those are up. What does he want his cows washed and ironed for? Apr 25, 1884 Soap don't cost as much as diamonds, but lots of people don't seem to be able to afford both.
