Hi Does anyone have any information in a "low-income" housing section of the city of Montrose during the depression? At least the miners and Mexican-Americans lived there. I am researching my husband's family and an aunt mentioned her family living there. She spoke of wooden sidewalks. Thanks. Shalane Sheley-Cruz
Good morning all, As I was adding another surname to the Dolores county site this moring, I began to wonder what we can do to increase the traffic and usefulness of the county websites. SO far this month, we have already surpassed the web entries from last month, but still, in either Surnames or Queries, we only have Montrose - 2 Dolores - 3 San Miguel - 1 Mesa - 1 What I am asking you is... Do you have any ideas on what we can add to the county sites, or any suggestions on how we can make our county sites more useful to ourselves and others? The information below was sent to me via another list. I can't afford anything at the moment-completely tapped out, but if any of you can purchase Census CDs for you own use, it looks like SK will donate. Just a thought. Anyway, if you have ideas, please let us know. Teri ************** see below************ Forwarded by: NDSDMN-L@rootsweb.com Hi Everyone: SK Publications has an agreement to donate a census CD to USGenWeb for each census purchased. The census images from the CD are re-sized to fit on the computer screen and uploaded to the USGenWeb web site. The images on the CD are much larger that what you see on the screen. Check out http://www.skpub.com/genie/censuscd/sd.html http://www.skpub.com/genie/censuscd/nd.html http://www.skpub.com/genie/censuscd/mn.html To see some re-sized images, look at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/sd/yankton/census/1900/347-04b.gif The 1850 MN Census images and Walsh Co., ND images are on-line, too. - ------------------------------------- Terry (Phil 4:13) Teri (Ps 37:5) To God be the glory! I am trying to find relatives in the Montrose area. My father was raised in Montrose in the 1910 -1930 era. His name was Will Fletcher. He had a sister Gladis and a brother Glen. His mothers name was Ruth and she remarried to a man named Fred Scott. Ruth's maiden name was Worley, and I think they were also from that area. My fathers side of the family is mainly a mystery and we are having a hard time tracking any family history. Can anyone there help me? I would appreciate it so much.....My father, mother, and I visited Montrose in 1960. My dad went right to the water fountain there, and drank that water like he was dying of thrist. WOW! Please help me....Thank you so very much. Oh my name is Delphine, and my dad named me after the bankers daughter? He said she was beautiful and so nice. Delphine Fletcher DeHaven del1022@wizzards.net

Hi!! I am going to see if I can find out more on my family. The goal of this posting is to see if anyone has joined the list that might have heard of my family. I have come to a brick wall. My gggrandmother, Nancy Elizabeth Snow Miller was born in Armstrong County, Pa. (Her death certificate says Brady's Bend...but I don't know.) Nancy was the oldest of the Nicholas and Rachel Shirley family. I have 1850-1870-1880 federal census years of the family and they lived at that time in Brady's Bend. In 1860 the family is documented as living in Fairview, Butler County, Pennsylvania. The 1880 census is helpful as it tells the names of her brothers and other unknown sisters. This census also gives other valuable information: 1880: Bradys Bend, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania *#401-Snow, Nicholas - white-male-age 62-Head-married-laborer-born in PA.- Parents both born in PA. Rachel-white-female-age 53-wife-married-keeping home-born in PA-Parents born in PA. Mathew B-white-male-age 21-son-single-laborer-born in PA.-Parents born in PA. Annie W(?)-white-female-age 18-daughter-single-at home-born in PA-Parents born in PA. George W-white-male-age 16-son-single-at home-attended school in census year-born in PA.- Parents born in PA. Bower(?), Rmikcer(?)-white-male-age 24-boarder-single-laborer-born in PA.-Parents born in PA. This census gave me clues as to where Nancy's brother Mathew lived and raised his family. I have tracked his family to Butler, Butler County in the 1900 census. George was Nancy's other brother and he was living in Bradford City, McKean County, Pennsylvania with his wife Margaret/Margarite (hard to read) and one son Francis. George Snow was at Nancy's funeral in Montrose, Colorado in 1915. The family does not know what has happened to George from this date. Some say he stayed in Colorado and lived for awhile. He was 50 at the time and I wonder about his own family. I can't seem to find out anything about Nancy, her parents or siblings in PA. You'd think there would be a will, tax records, an obituary of her parents death or other legal documents. This is my wall and would appreciate any guidance, help or advice. Happy Hunting, Maureen Brook
Thanks to Sundee and Mary Ann (Thomas) we have added several new files. El Paso County World War I veterans card file (dating from 1919) donated by the Penrose Library and the Pikes Peak GS. Sundee has transcribed the A-B cards to date. The outstanding item in this database is the 1920 era address information provided on each service member. She has also donated 21 tombstone photographs for the Greenwood Pioneer, Lakeside and Union Highland Cemeteries! See http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/co/fremont.htm Thanks Again! Good evening, In answer to Karen's question. I have not been sending in stats on the photo site as it is actually been pretty busy. Last month alone we added 32 photo's and a new county to the map. Denver County has the most photo's listed with a total of 4 pages and 45 photo's. Soon to have a 5th page of photo's listed. Most all photo's have 3 pages to it. It would be great if all county co-ordinators would add a link to the photo's pages. This is the best way to let people know about the project and lets them know they can submit photo's if they so choose to do so. I know that I have had people contact me about photo's and wonder why the county they have submitted to does not have a link to them. I, refer them to that county coordinator. Perhaps I should send them to Mary Ann as well. It is a valid question. Another thing that would be great is any of you that have mail lists for the Colorado counties, could you post a message stating that we have the site and welcome the photo's of their ancestors. All of my lists know about the Photo's project and we are SOOOOOOO close to having all the counties listed with photo's. We have come a long way in a years time.. Would any of you that have the mailing lists for the following counties please post a message to them regarding the photo's? I certainly do not ask much, and we are here to help others find ancestors and family they were not aware of. These are the only counties left without photo's. I am trying to locate any record on a set of great grandparents. My paternal grandmother had told me that her parents were Swede Finns who migrated to the states at some point, and got married in Telluride in 1914. The names are David Gustafson and Edla Finne(y). Apparently there are no records of their having married in San Miguel County records. They then moved to Berkeley, CA, at some point and bore my grandmother, Dorothy Gustafson, in 1927.
