Hi Everyone: I am new to this list. I am trying to locate any info on James A. and Mary Andrews Menefee. Right now the only lead I have is a mention of Mary in her brother Joel's obit. Joel died Aug 16, 1914 and the obit states he is survived by a sister Mary Menefee living in Grand Junction, CO. Mary would have been approximately 70 years old at that time. How would be the best way to find any info about her? Are there city directories, are there any indexed papers or obits for that time? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Debbie

This URL will tell you how many purchasers are needed for each year and county. http://www.skpub.com/genie/censuscd/co.html It would be wonderful to be able to get some of these online! Teri ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- S-K Publications will scan any Colorado county onto CD for any census year (1870 through 1920). Turn-around time, once an order is confirmed: 2-3 months. SPECIAL FEATURE: As each county/year census is completed, a copy of the scanned images will be donated in your name to the USGenWeb Archives for free, permanent on-line display. We offer three pricing schemes: 1) Individual Order (fastest and easiest, but most expensive): 75 cents per page. Click HERE for details. 2) Group Order (you need to be able to organize a group of people who want to purchase the same county/year at the cost of $20 per person). Click HERE for details. 3) Wait List (slowest method, but doesn't require you to organize a group; you just add your name to the wait list, and the cost will be $20 once there are enough purchasers to make the scanning economically feasible). 1880 through 1920 Census only. ==================================================== the url to check this out is: http://www.skpub.com/genie/censuscd/co.html Mary Ann Hetrick ==== COGEN Mailing List ==== This list is for the discussion of topics related to the COGenWeb project. This was sent to me and I think it is worthy to be passed on to all of you. I help you find it helpful. Teri ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- From: fhn@everton.com To: history@everton.com Date sent: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 04:37:58 -0500 Subject: FHN: 28 February 2000 EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY NEWSLINE Monday, 28 February 2000 Colorado State Inmates Authorized by the state legislature in 1868, the Colorado State Penitentiary opened its doors in 1871. Over the next hundred years or so it played "host" to thousands of "guests", both male and female. Now thanks to the Colorado State Archives you can search an online index to the inmates of that state penal institution for the first 103 years of its existence. The index is broken down into sections, with each (usually very large) page containing a piece of the alphabetic list with the full name of the inmate and his or her inmate number. This data can be used in your request to the Colorado State Archives for a copy of the inmate's file, which may include biographical data, information on the crime and subsequent sentence, and possibly even a photograph. This service is not free, but the Archives charges a very reasonable fee for copying and mailing this data. In addition to the prisoners index the Colorado State Archives has an excellent short online history of the state pen, a table on deconstructing the assigned inmate numbers, and an overview of what prison life was like. A stretch in the state correctional facility can be an embarrassing episode. But it can also provide a unique opportunity to learn more about your relative and the forces that shaped his or her life. I have found that I need to apologize to all of you who have wanted to submit your surnames to the Mesa County site. When I took over the county, I had to change several things, and I missed one important page that is never seen by you and usually not by me either!! The influenza epidemic of 1918 took the life of a mother with a newborn and 2 yr. old daughter in Grand Junction. The father, Guy Garber, in his grief was convinced the infant should be adopted to his sister, Ethel Garber Labertson. She did not want the 2yr. old. The maternal grandparents took her in but the Aunt did not want the infant to know or see that she had an older sister. The family even supported this decision. I am looking for information on this lost baby girl. Her mother was Neva HATHAWAY. Died 24 Oct 1918. Her father was Charles Guy GARBER. Known as 'Guy' Sister: Neva Mae Garber Born: 27 May 1916 Infant: Maxine Mildred. Born: 5 Sept. 1918 Grand Junction It is believed Maxine grew up in Grand Junction. May have married about 1938. I don't know if she was officially a Garber or a Labertson. Thanks.
