Mrs. Spanjer was born June 14, 1893 at Altona, Nebraska, the daughter of Herman and Lena Pflueger Brundieck. She started grade school at a rural school one mile from the family farm and later attended school in Altona. During the winter months, she boarded at the parsonage and helped the pastor and his wife. Later, after the family moved, Louise did domestic work in Wisner and also worked in a restaurant in Pilger. In 1915 she went to visit her sister Emma in Burr. During this visit she heard of the opening for a telephone operator in Cook. She enjoyed her job very much. She met George Spanjer at the church in Burr. They were married in 1916. In 1918 they came by immigrant train to Dailey to farm Grandpa Spanjers farm. They lived there until her husbands sudden death in 1940. After 1940 Louise lived in Sterling a while before moving to Denver in 1951. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Altar Guild and quilters. She loved to quilt and had made over 50 quilts for members of her family. She is survived by three sons Melvin, Merlin and Kenneth; four daughters Sylvia, Melvary Burt, Eleanor Madding and Eunice Marks; 19 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. Grave side services were held at the Haxtun Cemetery on September 8 with Rev. Gary Rahe officiating.
