His memorial service was on Monday. Feb. 22, at Chaney Reager Funeral Home with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3541 conducting the service. His service concluded at the funeral home. www.chaney-reager.com Tip was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Elkin, NC to Enoch Jackson Freeman and Mary Lena (Howell) Freeman. He graduated from Elkin High School, continuing his education at the University of Colorado School of Business and the Gardner-Webb North Carolina University. He entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, serving four years. He married Mary Helen McKnight in Sterling. They were married for 32 years. Tip was a radio announcer for KGEK and was the "voice of distinction" in the 1960s. He was regional vice president for Arby's. In the 1970s, Tip and Mary owned and operated the Burger Barn in Littleton, then later moved to Sterling and managed the A&W. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 20 and past commander for the Legion; member of VFW Post No. 3541 since 1954; a 50-year member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336; and was one of the first members of the Sheriff's Posse. He enjoyed dog sitting, camping, fishing, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all of life. Tip is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Godwin and husband, Michael of Ardmore, Okla., Mary Helen "Mikki" Jackson and husband, Rick of Sterling; son, Stephen Gray Freeman of Ardmore; grandchildren, Danielle Spencer and husband, Greg and their children, Ariana, Abigail and Colby, Cory Allen Jackson and wife, Carrie and their daughter, Bailey, Mary Raegen Alvarado and husband, Joe and their children, Milan, Sienna and Zander, Brandon Wade Godwin and wife, Ashley and their son, Parker; sisters, Mildred Trainor of Fairfax, Va. and Carolyn Woodruff of Boonville; brother, Harold Freeman and wife, Estelle of McLeansville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sara Freeman; brothers, Sammy, Jack and Edward Freeman; nephew Charles Freeman; great-grandson, Braxton Godwin; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Trainor and Allan Woodruff.
