    1. Re: [COLLINS-L] Collins in a Confederate Prison Camp
    2. Hi Dennis, There is a city in New Jersey called 'Mount Arlington". Could he have been buried in a cemetery near this village? Here is a link for the Mount Arlington Historical Society http://www.ci.mount-arlington.nj.us/history.htm http://www.gti.net/mountarlington/HIST/index.html The purpose of THE MOUNT ARLINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY is to promote community interest in the borough's history. Mount Arlington is a small Victorian town with a dynamic and diversified past. Virginia Rooney is the Town Historian and the society president. She can be reached at 973-398-1106. My gg-grandfather James Collins (born 1832 Galway, Ireland) enlisted with the 63rd New York Volunteers on 8/7/1861 in New York City. He marched to Washington, DC with the Irish Brigade in General Sumner's division which becomes the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 2nd Corps, Army of the Potomac. The 2nd Corps, 63rd NY sees action at: 1862 Williamsburg Fair Oaks Antietem Fredericksburg 1863 Chancellorsville Gettysburg Battle of the Wilderness First Battle of Petersburg 1864 Second Battle of Petersburg On 6/22/1864 Sergeant Major Vice Carroll James Collins is wounded and captured at the Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road during the extended siege at Petersburg. He is sent to Libby Prison in Richmond where he dies of his wounds on 8/1/1864 (although one source says 7/1/1864). His pension record shows that he was sent to Mt. Arlington Cemetery for burial. This is where I hit the stonewall. He is not in Arlington National Cemetery and no other Mt. Arlington Cemetery exists. This may be a typo made by the clerk at the time but his family (wife and two infants) never knew where he was buried and I am having the same luck finding him. Folks have suggested that he is buried in one of the five large military cemeteries in the Richmond area. If anyone has any information, access to databases or suggestions on where I might find him I would be eternally grateful. Dennis Doyle East Rutherford, NJ
