Died, Jan 21, 1824, Abigail COLLINS, aged 100 yrs, 4 mos, 6 dys [42] ... [42] A notice in the Political Index of Jan 7, 1824, states that Mrs. COLLINS was a native of New Jersey, but for many years a resident of Newburgh and among its first settlers; that her relations were very extensive, "she having arrived at the title of great-great-grandparent." She was deprived of sight & hearing for several years before her death." I suspect that Abigail (-----) COLLINS of Newburgh may have been identical with the widow of Joseph COLLINS. On 8 January 1789, Joseph COLLINS of the "Precinct of Cornwall" [New Cornwall] in Orange Co., NY made his will (Liber A:88). Among his heirs he identified: -- "my loving wife Abigail" (Executrix) -- "James son of my daughter Sarah" (a minor) -- "my children" (but no given names provided!) -- Executors: Jeremiah Clark, Esq., Cornwell Sand -- Witnesses: Samuel Ketchum of New Cornwall, Robert Waddell, Jacob VanDuzer Whether or not centenarian Abigail was the widow of Joseph COLLINS, I suspect that Joseph & Abigail (-----) COLLINS were the parents (or possibly the paternal grandparents) of Mary COLLINS of Orange Co., NY who was married to Solomon BRUNDAGE at New Windsor, NY on 14 April 1787 by Presbyterian Minister John CLOSE. Solomon & Mary (COLLINS) BRUNDAGE resided in New Cornwall in 1790; their included a daughter, Abigail, who was probably named in honor of Abigail (-----) COLLINS: i. Isaac [Johnson] BRUNDAGE, b. 16 Sep 1789. ii. Martha BRUNDAGE, b. 22 Aug 1791. iii. Benjamin S. BRUNDAGE, b. [NJ] 19 Sep 1793; m. Charity LANNING. iv. Eliza BRUNDAGE, b. 12 June 1796. v. John BRUNDAGE, b. Orange Co., NY 16 March 1799; m. Jemima KNIGHT. vi. Abigail "Abby" Ann BRUNDAGE, b. 14 Oct 1801. vii. Jane BRUNDAGE, b. 14 July 1805. viii. Alexander D.N. BRUNDAGE, b. 28 May 1808; m. [Margaret McDonald]; member of Capt. Oscar Marsh's Company of Newburgh Volunteers (local militia); discharged at Balmville on 6 Aug 1834; resided in Newburgh, NY in 1840. Q. Does anyone have more information on centenarian Abigail (-----) COLLINS? Q. Does anyone have more information on Joseph & Abigail (-----) COLLINS & desc.? Q. Does anyone have access to the "Newburgh Political Index?" Thanks for your help, Perry Perry Streeter (mailto:[email protected]) http://www.perry.streeter.com
