Above allegedly born of Maurice & Ida COLLINS July 1892 in MA (possibly Boston or Salem) but no trace at Boston Registry of birth. At some stage (and prior to 1916) he managed to get to India and was serving in the Indian Army - why, when or how he got there remain a mystery. Assistance would be appreciated Thanks & Happy New Year Linda & Tony
G'day, in 1916, there were two Armies in India: the British, and the Indian. The latter was composed of "local" troops, with mostly British officers. I don't know anything about research in India. A fairly complete list of soldiers in the British Army in WW1 is available on-line from the UK PRO. I searched "Francis COLLINS", and got 58 hits. There were no obvious connections with your bloke. Do you have any more details of his military service, that might enable some refined searching of the above list ?
