Elizabeth Collins Turner, 92, of Winston-Salem died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Turner was born April 20, 1912, in Little Rock, Ark., a daughter of the late Moses Sumter Collins and the late Leila Thomas Collins. She was a graduate of Galloway Woman's College, and married Dr. W. Newton Turner on July 6, 1934. Her husband, Dr. Turner, was the vice president of Western Carolina University and was a Fulbright Professor in Peshawar, Pakastan. During his employment and retirement, they traveled extensively in Asia, Mexico and Hawaii. She was first a devoted and loyal wife, and a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Cullowhee United Methodist Church, and was very active in civic affairs in the university community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W. Newton Turner. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Turner Law and husband, Robert Bowden Law, of Winston-Salem; s! isters Lucinda Akana and Dorothy Mitchell, both of California; grandchildren Lucinda Lechleider of Winston-Salem and Max Hutchinson II of Huntersville, and great-granddaughter Sarah Hutchinson of Huntersville. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Cullowhee United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sylva. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Western Carolina University W.
