The Suburban LIFE (Downers Grove IL) Wednesday, January 20, 1999 - Page 8 - Elizabeth Emmons Collins Langdon - Jan. 31, 1914 - Jan. 3, 1999 - Elizabeth Emmons Collins Langdon passed away in Clearwater, Fla., on Jan. 3, 1999. Her paternal grandfather, William Augustus Collins, was the first postmaster of the village of Western Springs. After his passing, Elizabeth's beloved paternal grandmother, Clara Gregg Emmons Collins, raised her in Western Springs. Elizabeth's father, Emmons Collins, was a member of the first graduating class at Lyons Township High School in 1897; Elizabeth graduated from that institution in 1931 and went on to attend the University of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Henry Langdon, of LaGrange; and her elder son, Richard Collins Langdon. She is survived by her younger son, John S. Langdon of Los Angeles; and her three sisters, Mary Bain of Hinsdale, Emmonda Heavener of Vineland, N.J., and Augusta Collins of Chicago. Elizabeth's grandfather's uncles, John and Charles Collins, donated the Western Springs Village Green, together with the landmark Water Tower on it, to the village on the condition that their generous legacy remain unaltered. Interment for Elizabeth Langdon will be at the Arlington National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, march 29, 1999, with her husband and elder son.
