SC...Murff signed his indent receipt 11 May 1786...Indent for John Murff of Orangeburg for 90 days service as a private and foot soldier made out 11 May 1785..Indent assigned to Israel Joseph for collection in Columbia 17 May 1785. Interest on indent was received by Moses Spitzer of Orangeburg for John Murff...John Murff was evidently a very young mand for he did not enter service until the last years of the was...He was not killed at Cowpents nor can I find any record of a Murff who was killed at Cowpens. This is very likely your Murff for if you look at the birth date of the Murff in your lines, you will see that the John Murff, if he died at Cowpens, his son would had had to have been born before that battle or very near it which would make that son and old man when his child, your direct ancestor was born...Mr. Salley says this is the John Murff o the will I sent you from Charleston. In Sumter in 1857 Estate file for John Anderson is mentioned a son in law, Stephen Tisdale.
