I post from time to time just to let folks know the study is still out there. Collins males (from an unbroken line of Collins fathers and sons) are encouraged to participate. www.relativegenetics.com is the company we use for testing. The cost is much lower than previously mentioned in previous posts. It's now $155. I figure it's well worth the price to help determine a connection to other Collins lines, or to eliminate them as possible relations. We've collected samples from about 20 lines of Collins males thus far and have been able to connect 11 of them into three different connected lines. I'm a volunteer co-coordinator along with Roger Collins. We have been looking at Collins families in the GA, SC, VA, NC in the 1700's and 1800's. We are also interested in MD/DE Collins, as we have found descendants of these folks in and around Georgia in the early 1800's. So far our subjects are all of European descent, we haven't encountered any Melungeon results thus far, but that's probably because there's another study may have attracted the folks which suspect that type of lineage. I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone has about this study. It has helped me tremendously as it "proved" my ancestor (born 1785) shared a common ancestor along with another Collins male (died in 1806) whom I suspected a relationship but could never "prove". Thanks, Rose Collins Lowther Rose, I have gone to the website you mentioned and ordered a DNA kit. My Collins like comes from Berrien Co. GA and My 3rd cousin is a direct male of a male descendant. I have tried to link my line to that of Enoch Collins, but have not prevailed. My last known Male Collins Ancestor is John W. Collins b. abt. 1833 in N.C. and settled in Berrien Ga. died before 1890. Hopefully I can connect my family with another line to help in our research. I will keep in touch. Teri Wiggins Schneider
