Sec. 19-T 1 N, R 1 W. Land for church and cemetery was donated to a Methodist group by John Moore about 1830. Sarah Barbara Crouts, mother of John Moore’s wife, had already been buried there. She had come with the Moores from North Carolina. The marker at her grave was placed in recent years, when the graveyard was being improved. Probate records show that her estate was being settled in July 1829. There are many old graves with field stone markers, without inscriptions. NOTE: The above is the DAR version of Moore's Ridge. Sarah Barbara Crout did NOT come with the Moore's from North Carolina. Rather, she came with her daughter from Kentucky. Evidence of this can be seen in the Bryant/Alspaugh records. COLLINS, John Andrew; d. 18 Jul 1940, age 69y/9m10d. =================================================== Newberry Cemetery Orange County, Indiana >From the Cemetery Records compiled by the Lost River Chapter DAR Paoli Township Sec. 34-T. 2N.-R.1.W. The first meeting house stood on land that was entered by William Holliday and was on the Indian boundary line running south from Freeman's Corner near Orleans. Later, land was bought from Alexander Clark and Henry Towell. There are many old graves which are unmarked. A section of this cemetery was allotted to the use of colored people. Used occasionally. Located in west section of Orleans, the old town cemetery was laid off when Orleans was founded in 1815, when Orange County was a part of Washington County and Indiana was yet a territory. There are a number of unmarked graves, and many inscriptions are too worn to decipher. The first burial was that of a German settler, Frederick Fesperman, who died in 1816. The cemetery is well kept, under the auspices of the Village Improvement Society. COLLINS, Thomas N.; 10 Jan 1834-6 Jan 1913. COLLINS; Ruth Swan; 25 Dec 1840-26 Mar 1925. ============================================== Robinson-Pace Cemetery Orange Co., Indiana Contributed by Marvin Beatty This cemetery is located about a mile off the Hillham-Norton Road behind the house of Mary Harrison, near Orange-Dubois border. These stones were copied by George W. Milburn on 19 November 1932, and by myself, Marvin P. Beatty, in 1987. I listed several more stones than did Milburn . A few of our dates were off a little but that is to be expected when you are dealing with stones that old. I listed only two stones dated later than 1932. NOTES: There is one vacant space between Aaron Baty and his daughter, Mary Collins. William E. Beaty is buried two spaces from his great grandfather, Aaron W. Baty. There is one space between William D. Simmons and his daughter, Mary A. Simmons. Mr. Milburn stated in 1932 that there were about fifty graves that have no markers except some with field sandstone with no dates. COLLINS, Mary M. - died 12 March, 1857, age 20 yrs, 1 mo, 21 das. =============================================================== BATY, Aaron W. (Milburn for some strange reason listed this name as BEATTY) died 7 March, 1865, aged 71 yrs, 5 mos. BEATY, William Elwood (Milburn also listed this one as BEATTY) son of J. H. & E. ( he failed to copy this part) 16 Feb. 1874, age 11 mos. 21 das. -------------------END------------------------------
