Hi Y'all.. Have not been able to contribute much to the list lately. I am a descendant of Griffin Collins Sr..b 1773 in NC OR somewhere around Montgomery Co Va. In my search, I have accumulated quite a bit of Collins information. I was fortunate enough to receive the research Dr. Virginia DeMarce did on the Melungeons..which of course..contains very valuable information for us Collins researchers !! I will paste excerpts from her research here..in hopes it will help some of us. I am especially interested in the group of Collins men on the 1793 Tax List for the New River District..Montgomery Co VA. (below), as I am (almost) positive..one of these men is my 5th g Grandad !!
