I live in Grass Valley CA. and this is mining area. Gold was discovered 1849. The type of mining done here was the same type done in Cornwall England. The mines here couldn't get enough men who knew this type of mining, so they brought all kinds of help from Cornwall, England. Needless to say, many of them stayed in this area. This area of the U.S. never knew there was a depression on in the 1930s as the mines went full blast until 1953/4.
