My Great-great-grandfather John Harvey Collins was born in Wilson County, Tenn in 1822. In 1915 he gave family info to his grandson Julian Barksdale. The following is what he gave: Thomas Collins was born in ? Ireland in 1735 and immigrated to America in ?. He was a soldier in the war of 1812 under General Jackson at New Orleans. He later lived in NC and Tenn. He was living at St. Joseph, Mo. in 1851, the last heard of. His wife was a Miss Sims William Collins, son of Thomas Collins, born at ? in ?. He married a Miss Sarah B. Wortham, dau of William Wortham, one of the six largest brothers in Tenn. the sic weighing twenty-odd hundred pounds. William Collins moved with his family to Arkansas and pre-empted a farm where the city of Little Rock, Ark now stands. Their children are: Robert F. Collins Nancy Collins Lafayette K. Collins Thomas Collins Elizabeth Collins, John H Collins Julia Collins William Collins died in 1835 and Mrs Collins moved back to Asury County, Tenn where she lived until her death in ?. Her home was 6 miles from Columbia, the county seat of Maury County. Robert went to California, from Abidine (?), Miss., on Tom Bigby River. Lafayette was in St. Louis in 1851. Elizabeth married F. W. Williams in Pontytop Town, Miss. julia never married. Nancy married John W. Fitzgerald of Maury County, Tenn. Thomas died in Itawamby County, Miss. John H. lives in Texas. Obviously there is an error concerning the dates. The account I have was typed. Did a transpositional error occur in the typing?. Many of the Collins have lived a long life, John H. lived to be 97. Count the year 1835 have been 1853? or is there a missing generation not given in the narrative. I first find William Collins in Wilson County, Tenn. It was there William C. Collins married Sarah B. Wortham in July of 1817. It appears He and Sarah remained there until 1821. At that time he sold his land and presumably left for Maury County, Tenn. The father of Sarah B. Wortham was a William Wortham. He died in Maury County, Tenn and his heirs are listed in a deed. William Wortham's wife was listed as Arrena. I have been told Arrena was a Sims. Could this have been the Sims connection to which John H. alluded? Possibly not as there was an Elisha Sims Collins found in Wilson county, Tenn. Mrs Sarah B. Wortham Collins married 2nd Elijah Overstreet 16 March 1836. Sarah B. Wortham Collins Overstreet is found in the 1850 census of Maury County, Tenn. I can find no trace of her of daughter Julia after that time. By 1856 John H. Collins is in San Augustine County, Texas. At that time he married Luvinia Caroline Harrell. Two of his sons moved to Navarro County, Texas. They were Lafayette and William Wortham (Buddie) Collins. While searching for William Wortham's Collins's son, Harvey, I came accross the fact that there was an older Harvey Theadore Collins who resided in Navarro County. The older Harvey was born in Miss. Since two of John H Collins brothers were in Miss at one time I wonder if Harvey Theadore Collins is kin to the other Harvey Collins of Navarro County. Any information on this family would be apprecited. Sincerely Shannon Smyrl Exum@BAsinlink.Com Smyrl@Midland.CC.Tx.Us
