Following the fact sheet is a list of common Melungeon surnames. These surnames are common to the Cumberland Plateau region of NC, VA, TN, KY, WV during the early westward migration years. If you have hard-to-find family and/or a hint of Indian blood, with no proof, this group of people called Melungeons, (rhymes with dungeons) may be connected with your families.
