He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in East St. Louis, Ill., to George and Ceclia (Schamherr) Collins. On Jan. 1, 1948, he married Gean Gray in Illinois. She is deceased. Mr. Collins served in the Army in the 406th Infantry from 1944-1946. He worked in the carpet business with his brothers in Belleville, Ill., before moving to Brighton three years ago. He was a member of the choir at Elmwood Baptist Church. He enjoyed walking, exercising, woodworking and home improvements. Survivors are two daughters, Donna Havenhill of Brighton, and Shirley Downs of Henderon, Nev.; a son, Timothy Collins of Wheaton, Ill., two brothers, Norman Collins of Belleville, Ill., and Terry Collins of Millstadt, Ill.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His parents are deceased. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Baptist Church. Internment in Belleville Cemetery in Belleville, Ill., will be at a later date.
