    3. Hello Collins Web Administrator: I am Garry Robert Felty. Thank you for honoring my request to join your group. I am the son of Robert Thomas Blaine Felty - aka Blaine Robert Felty (Mancelona, Antrim Co., MI) and Pearl Maxine Collins (Smith Branch, Greenup Co., KY). Pearl is the d/o Benjamin Harrison Collins - (Greenup, KY) and Malinda Mae Lemaster (Johnson Co., KY). Benjamin is the s/o Jonathon Edward Collins (?VA) and Nancy Jane Berry (Floyd, KY). Jonathon was the s/o Edward "Ned / Neddie" Collins and Susan ??? Edward & Susan are a brick wall item for me. My grandmother's notes indicate they were married in Old Town KY in 1840 & farmed there for a while then moved to Old??? Virginia where they raised their family. John Edward was born in 1842 & had a sister Mary Collins (Stout) & a Sister Susan Collins (Clevenger). I need any data available on Edward and Susan. After Edwards' death (?? date ??place) Susan married a John Fields & lived in KY until John was placed in an institution for the insane. Would also like data on Mary Collins (Stout) who had a cotton farm in ??Texas (I believe John Edward & Huldy's son James went to live with them around 1891) & Susan Collins (Clevenger). Nancy Jane Berry had been previously married to 1. John Dean & had a son William Montville Dean (I have no data on John Dean - assumed he died) 2. Millard Click & had a son Millard Fillmore Click (I believe they were divorced) prior to her marriage to my gr, grandfather Jonathon Edward Collins. John Edward Collins was first married to a Mahulda "Huldy" Johnson & had a son James Collins (1872) & a daughter who died young. Huldy also died young. I do not know where they were married (I assume cir 1868 right after he was discharged from Civil War duty - Co "C" 39th Reg. KY Infantry) nor where Huldy was born or died. I do have a list of her siblings but nothing on her parents. I have not found them in KY or VA census; same for Neddie & Susan collins. Jonathon Edward Collins and Nancy Jane also had a son - Ruford Andrew "Andy" Collins m. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mccarty. They had a son Rev Emanuel Collins. I have seen mention of the Rev. Emanuel Collins in Tennessee and WVA but havn't been able to communicate with the inquirers. No response to my e-mails. Would enjoy any data or further communication, pictures, etc. on any of the above. I have some old pictures & tin types from my grand mothers trunk (Berry, Thornsberry, Click, Collins, Dean, Lemaster, & related families - most unidentified). Wish you all good hunting. Garry [email protected] [email protected] wrote: *** AUTOMATED MESSAGE FROM A COMPUTER *** You have added to the subscriber list of: [email protected] the following mail address: [email protected] By default, copies of your own submissions will be returned. Welcome to the COLLINS Family Mail List Revised 17 July 2002 PLEASE READ AND SAVE THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE! Your List Administrator is Barbara (Vestal) Byrd **RootsWeb is host for the COLLINS Family Mail List. This is a closed list, meaning that only posts originating from subscribed e-mail addresses to the COLLINS Family Mail List can post to the COLLINS Family Mail List. You are currently subscribed in "list mail mode", which means that you will receive every post made to the COLLINS Family Mail List as a separate e-mail message. Should you wish to receive posts to the COLLINS Family Mail List in digest version, COLLINS-D, directions for changing to digest mode are given below. You will receive the same messages in either mode! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TABLE OF CONTENTS A. QUICK INSTRUCTIONS B. PURPOSE C. TWO VERSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM D. SENDING MESSAGES TO THE LIST E. WHY NO ATTACHMENTS F. SENDING COMMANDS TO ROOTSWEB (i.e.) subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. G. OFF-TOPIC POSTS, DIFFERING OPINIONS, AND/OR FLAMING H. HELPFUL WEB SITES FOR MAILING LISTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A. QUICK INSTRUCTIONS 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to [email protected] that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is removed for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to: [email protected] 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send a message to: [email protected] with only one word in the message body, (no .SIG file): unsubscribe to discontinue mail mode. Secondly, send a message to: [email protected] with only one word in the message body, (no .SIG file): subscribe to start receiving the COLLINS Family Mail List in digest mode. 4. To post messages to everyone on the list, send your message to: [email protected] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ B. PURPOSE The COLLINS-L Mail List is an e-mail list devoted exclusively to and for genealogical research and discussion of COLLINS family, including any other spelling, anytime, anywhere! Discussion that includes ancestral and descendant families, having a COLLINS family connection, is always welcome as well! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ C. TWO VERSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM: COLLINS-L is for individual messages to be delivered to your e-mail address. As each subscriber to the list sends messages to the list address, you will receive a copy of the message. To subscribe send an e-mail message to: [email protected] with one word in the body of the message (no .SIG file): subscribe COLLINS-D is for a digest of several accumulated messages to be delivered to your email address. As each subscriber to the list sends messages to the list address, they are put together as a digest to be delivered later. The digest is generated approximately once a day and delivered to digest subscribers. This option may be handy for people who don't wish for multiple messages to accumulate in their mail box. To subscribe send an email message to: [email protected] with only one word in the body of the message (no .SIG file): subscribe ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ D. SENDING MESSAGES TO THE LIST To send MESSAGES to ALL subscribers on both versions of the COLLINS Family Mail List (COLLINS-L and COLLINS-D) post your messages to: [email protected] Please remember that if you desire making contact with other family researchers who may be working on the same family as you, the more information you include in your post, the more likely another list subscriber may be able to make that connection! Please try to always include name, location, and time frame (or your best guesses for each, clearly identified as "speculation", "possibly", etc.) to increase your chances for making a connection with other researchers who may not have "complete" information on a family either! The COLLINS Family Mail List is not moderated. Any message sent to the above address is automatically posted to everyone on the list, including both COLLINS-L and COLLINS-D. While I, acting as your List Administrator, in no way wish to ever stifle free discussion, I do reserve the right to step in should a flame war erupt and become tedious for other subscribers, or if someone should become unseemly (unbridled and/or excessive use of profanity, for instance). I will remove anyone from the list of subscribers who flagrantly abuses the dictates of common civility and threatens to cause mass desertion by the COLLINS Family Mail List subscribership. Before you are tempted to send anything that could be interpreted by the receiver as flaming, please remember that the person you are posting to may very well be a "Cousin!" whose help you may need in order to progress on one or more of your families of interest! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ E. WHY NO ATTACHMENTS NO ATTACHMENT should ever be posted to the COLLINS Family Mail List, or any other mail list for that matter! Your cooperation in this matter will be most appreciated by many of the list's subscribers! If you have a file that you might wish to share, please alert the mail list to your willingness to share and state what format it might be in, asking those interested parties to contact you. Then send your files to those parties who have indicated their receptiveness to receive your material. Problems have arisen whenever someone has posted attachments to any of the many mail lists to which I do, and have, subscribed. Those problems that are usually encountered tend to fall in one of two general categories: 1. Unless an attachment is in standard text, some, perhaps even a majority of the mail list's subscribers may not be able to open an attachment in any readable format. 2. Most attachments will usually exceed the 20 k allowable size for some of our subscribers e-mail programs, and other subscribers may have ISPs that are not set up to handle sizable files in incoming e-mail. This can create insurmountable problems some times, perhaps even causing the loss of e-mail for all that ISP's subscribers. Attachments may not cause problems for either you, or for me personally, but not all subscribers to the COLLINS Family Mail List may be quite so fortunate. Additionally, some of our subscribers must pay for their Internet access based on time on-line, while some even access the Internet via long-distance connection. It is most unfair to expect each and every subscriber so obligated, to have to pay for extra undesired download time for files that may, or may not be, of any use to them whatsoever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ F. SENDING COMMANDS TO ROOTSWEB: To subscribe, unsubscribe or make other changes to your mailing list subscription, you will send "commands" to the computer & the SmartList software on RootsWeb. Please do not be affronted should you suddenly find yourself having been unsubscribed when not your intention. ISPs are frequently undergoing upgrades and whenever that happens, or any other misfortune causes a break in service, should a post made to the mail list bounce four times to your address, ROOTSWEB will automatically unsubscribe you. I have even had this happen to me before! Imagine my surprise to find myself as List Administrator to be receiving a "You have been removed" message to my own mail list! Should this happen to you please feel free to resubmit a SUBSCRIBE command to the server to reinstate your list subscribership. To send COMMANDS to RootsWeb in order to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. use: [email protected] (for mail list version) [email protected] (for the digest version) a. To manage your subscription, send an e-mail message to the address above and use any of the following commands, typed within the body of your e-mail message. Type ONLY one of the commands as it is shown below. Do not add any extra words or lines of text: subscribe unsubscribe get file welcome.txt b. Do NOT use a signature file attached to the e-mail message. The software reads your message and tries to answer each command it finds. When it runs across your signature file it gets a bit confused and will send you a message stating something like 'Do not recognize command 'Jones'. Do not recognize command "Smith", etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ G. OFF-TOPIC POSTS, DIFFERING OPINIONS, AND/OR FLAMING The COLLINS-L Mail List is NOT to be used as a medium for alerting subscribers to unsubstantiated and unverified VIRUS alerts, calls for action in regard to unverified FCC action, the American Cancer Society, or any other unsubstantiated and unverified alert or call to action! Differing opinions will invariably arise from time to time, but as long as we each resolve to seek the truth, wherever it might lead, good healthy discussion may well be of benefit to others on the list who might pick up something of benefit in our on-line exchange. No one should ever construe having a differing opinion as posing a personal assault or flame! Personal verbal assault, inflammatory speech, and/or other such abuse should never be posted to the COLLINS Family Mail List for any reason! The COLLINS Family Mail List should NEVER be used for publicly FLAMING another subscriber for any reason!! Before you post to the list, please read your post and consider how you might feel if you were the recipient of the post you are about to make! None of us can possibly know who may be able to be of some assistance to us in our own personal search for family! There is no justifiable excuse for any post being made to the COLLINS Family Mail List lacking common civility. PLEASE feel free to check with your List Administrator before you send any post to the COLLINS Family Mail List that does not deal with COLLINS family research in any way! Any subscriber who flagrantly and/or habitually abuses their list privileges will be advised that continued abuse can jeopardize their membership to the COLLINS Family Mail List, and should that abuse continue, will be removed from the subscribership of the mail list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.
