James Madison Collins was a son of John B. Collins of Lauderdale Co. Ms. His line is: James Madison Collins>John B. Collins>Nathaniel Madison Collins>Elisha Collins of Virginia and Kentucky>Joseph Collins of Virginia. Trying to find a living descendant of James Madison Collins. James Madison Collins was b. Jan 10, 1848, in MS. He married Amanda Elizabeth Ethridge and they were the parents of eight children. James Madison was in his mother's household of the 1870 Census of Lauderdale Co., MS. Their first 2 children, girls, were born in MS in 1870 and 1872. Their 3rd child, a girl, was born ca 1874 in Corsicana, TX. That 3rd child died ca 1876 Cleburne, TX. This 3rd child was not in the 1880 Census because she was born after the 1870 Census but died before the 1880 Census was enumerated. Their 4th child, a son, was born at Cleburne, TX in 1876. James M. Collins departed TX and arrived back in MS ca 1876 and had 4 more children. The 1880 Census showed his occupation to be "Farmer", suggesting that he may have farmed in both States during 1880. He eventually joined the Meridian, MS Police Dept., and was killed on Oct. 27, 1888, in the line of duty while trying to break up a gambling ring.
