LL2, Oakland, CA 94612-3031)(510-663-1358)(contact@californiaancestors.org)( www.CaliforniaAncestors.org) They published a statewide alphabetized list (covers 1,663 names of federal pensioners in Calif. in 1883) in more than one issue. (There's a printed list organized by county somewhere, and that can be seen, digitized, i guess, on Ancestry. From that list one could learn the cause for the pension and some other info. Alphabetized list can be helpful as a locator.) On p. 29 are some Collinses: Mary P, who was at that time in Orange, Los Angeles County; Benjamin L., Lewis, Mariposa County; Nathan W., San Francisco, San Francisco; and Alphonso C., Red Bluff, Tehama.
