Dear Marjorie (and other listers), I'm working on the Brice COLLINS who was the son of John COLLINS who ended up in the Lancaster/Cumberland/Mifflin/Juniata (as they divided up the counties) area in Pennsylvania. Your Brice COLLINS in North Carolina was the only other by that name when I finally found a lead to the maiden name of my 3ggm, Catharine COLLINS who married David SCOTT, Sr., somewhere and moved to Belmont County, Ohio, by 1820 and to Des Moines County (Burlington), Iowa, by 1839/40. Catharine disappeared from the land records in Des Moines County between February and November 1847. Father John died in 1789 in Pennsylvania. He had been an early settler, coming in soon after the land was purchased from the Indians, leaving when the Indian problem became too great, and then moving back onto the land and remaining the rest of his life. His wife's name was Catharine. My Brice may have had two wives--Ann and Martha. Ann may have had only daughter Ann before she left the family, but it was her two granddaughters (Mary Elizabeth and Agnes HUNTER) who married into the WILSON family consisting of father Bradley and seven sons which joined the LDS Church in Ohio in 1836. Martha was the name he listed for his wife on his will, probated in Belmont County, Ohio, on 10 Mar 1818. Wish these two families tied together. It would be ever so convenient. And perhaps they do at some point. We'll keep our eyes open for clues. Thank you for giving the information on that North Carolina line. I will file that away for future reference.
