Hello everyone, I have my own Collins family mystery. I have done a lot of research on my Collins line at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT. but have not been able to find the origin of my Collins family in America. Here is what I have. 1st generation was Price Collins b. ca. 1682 of All Hallows Parish, Somerset Co., MD. He died 24 Nov 1727 (will probate) in Bogerternorten 100, Somerset Co., MD. He was married to Rebecca unknown but could be a Chambers. In his will he mentions sons, Solomon Collins, Brice (Price) Collins and Samuel Collins. Both Samuel and Brice/Price were both under age. Sounds like he died at a fairly early age. Price Collins was a resident of Bogerternorton 100, Somerset Co., MD. His will was dated 3 Oct. 1727 and probated 24 Nov 1727, Somerset Co., MD. Film #14528 pp 264-265. It was recorded the November session of court, 1807 in Worcester Co., MD. (The part of Somerset Co. that they lived in later became Worcester Co., MD). He said he was a resident of All Hallows Parish (formally Snow Hill). He has listed only 3 children in his will, Solomon Collings, Price Collings and Samuel Collins, in that order. Price and Samuel were under age and put in the care of kinsman, Richard Chambers until they were 18 years of age.I found a deed where Price Collings purchased land in 1718 in Somerset Co. and sold same 25 March 1727, a few months before his death. On June 29, 1718, Price was an appraiser on the inventory of Philip Truatt and on 11 April 1721 he was an appraiser on the inventory of Jonathan Hudson. There is some connection here with the Hodson's/Hudson's also the Truatt/Truitt names ! come up with the Collin's often. There is a Charles Collins, an Ebenezer Collins and a Edmond Collins on the tax lists, 7/1/1724 (Charles Collins in Bogerternorton 100, 1 slave; Ebenezer, Baltimore 100 in Household of Mrs. Mary Collins; Edmond, Nanticoke 100 in household of Edmond Collins, Jr.) Price Collins was a planter. 2 generation: Brice/Price Collins b. ca 1712 in Somerset Co., MD; died 1791 in Orange Co., NC (from his will); married 12 Aug 1747 in Holy Trinity Church, Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE, Elizabeth Bradley b. 9 Dec 1721, christened 22 Jan 1722 in Holy Trinity Church in Wilmington. Her parents were Henry Bradley and Catherine Lewis (from the Holy Trinity Church records). Their children that were named in the will of Enoch Bradley, Orange Co., NC. He was the brother of Elizabeth (Bradley) Collins...John, Catharine, Enoch, Mary, Brice Collins, my 3rd gr. grandfather (he went by Major, Brice Collins, was in the Revolution) Elizabeth, Jain, Joseph and Margaret. This Brice/Price Collins has disappeared from 1752 (when his son Enoch was baptized in Old Swede's Church in Wilmington, DE) until I found him in the 1790 census of Orange Co., NC. He entered a land grant 30 Dec 1778 for 400 acres on the waters of the Eno River. It was issued 20 Oct 1779. He lived in Hillsboro, NC. He is missing from my records for over 30 years, can't find him anywhere, where could he be! I have found his name spelled as Price and Brice in various records in DE but when he came to NC, it was Brice Collins. 3 generation: Major, Brice Collins of Burke Co., NC; married Jemima Moore. 4 generation: Joseph Lafayette Collins b. 1805 Burke Co., NC; married Elizabeth Ann Johnson of Burke Co. 5 generation: Brice Monroe Collins b. 1839 in Burke Co., NC; married Margaret Elizabeth Warlick b. Burke Co. They left NC about 1870 after the Civil War and settled in Geary Co., Kansas where they had a homestead. 6 generation: Bryce Monroe Collins b. 1877 in Geary Co., Kansas (this is my grandfather, my mother was a Collins) Can anyone help with my early Collins family?? Sorry this is so long but had to explain my records. Marjorie Fletcher Salt Lake City, UT Contact me at [email protected] Carson/Collins/Warlick: http://home.earthlink.net/~leota_m/collins.html
Hi, It is quite a jump to say that the younger Price Collins who was named in the Will of his father Price Collins in 1727 in Somerset County, Maryland is the same person as Brice Collins who married in New Castle County, Delaware and later moved to North Carolina. I haven't seen any records that would substantiate this. New Castle County is the northern of the three Delaware counties. The makeup of the county during the 17th & 18th century was very unlike the counties on the lower shore of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. It would not be a typical migration pattern for someone to move from Somerset County to New Castle County in the 1730s. New Castle County is more closely associated with the Philadelphia area.(Several Collins lines originate from that area). Considering the above, and the name change, I think it is very unlikely that Price Collins from Somerset county and Brice Collins from New Castle county are the same person. From the records you provided Brice Collins in New Castle County could very well be the same Brice Collins in Orange County, NC.
