I can't tell you anything specific about your John Collins. However, some years ago a southern researcher, Leonardo Andrea, did research on southern Collins families. The LDS filmed the file in 1974 and it's available from their family history libraries. I transcribed the file, a very large one of 57 pages. [It is in Microsoft Word] For the most part it is courthouse records with one mistake found toward the end, that of my Joseph Collins. He has him married to the wrong lady.
