Dear Collins listers : Quite amazed at the amount of message traffic , I know find on this surname. Keep up the good work, so here is a bit more that I hope will ring a bell with some of you..Here is a bit of their history, lot of speculation here, that's for sure, as you all know the surname is a difficult one to research. It's the key to much of my family history so I keep searching. My line of Collins, likely immigrated to the states ( no Idea how early, suspect around the 1820 time period from Northern Ireland , the Donegal County area. They came into the Port Philadelphia, went on to Schuylkill CO, the area of Pottsville, Suspect that they had close family friends and even relatives that came before them. Surnames such as Hanlin ( Hanlon ), Gallaghers and Rodgers. My great -grandfather, William Rodgers, of London ,married to a Catherine Collins, in Ireland , had a son, Dennis, my grandfather ,born about 1808 in Ireland, before immigrating to the states with his family. They settled in Schuykill Co. Pa.on arrivial in the states.Dennis later married Margaret Hanlin, daughter of my great-great grandfather, James Hanlin (aka Hanlon ) .James arrived at the port of Philadelphia. August 21, 1827.Settled in Schulykill Co. Pa., then married Bridget Quinalin, born Ireland 1806. They had several children before deciding to relocate to Ohio in 1833 The Dominic Gallagher family to make the trip with them. Dominic's wife, was Alice Collins, who we suspect was a sister of Catherine Collins that married my great grandfather. The Hanlin and Gallagher families relocated to Franklin Twp. Columbiana Co. Ohio, took up farm land and stayed there for many years. Lots of Hanlin, Rodgers/Rodger,Gallagher families lived in that area and likely are relatives. Very hard to connect them to each other. If you think yu have a connecting link to the families of this area ,found on the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census. Like to discuss that connection with you. Hoping that enjoy the upcoming Holidays.....Kenneth
