    1. [COLLINS] Early Carolinian Collins
    2. Beverly I Cronk
    3. Since there were several Collins queries, I thought I would ask about the Collins I'm trying to find - my husband's gggg grandparents, James O. and Sarah McGraw Collins.   James O. Collins was a sailor and drowned in the Chesapeake Bay in the early 1800s.  I have no other information on James and Sarah.    Their son, William Smith Collins was born in Somerset Maryland on 5/30/1799.   William later travelled West to Louisville KY, where he learned how to lay bricks and met and wed Mary Ann Hoke, the daughter of Adam Hoke and Catherine Hoffheins.   The young married couple later travelled to Carlisle, Sullivan County, Indiana (with other members of the Hoke family) where they had several children and acquired land. I am very curious about James and Sarah.  Were they born in America or did they come from the British Isles?  Did they have any other children? Was James a sailor for the navy or a private shipper?  Was his body recovered?   Who were the parents of James and Sarah?  This first Collins couple I've found is one of my great challenges; I'd appreciate any information or suggestions. Thanking you in advance, Beverly Cronk ----- Original Message ----- From: Dorothy Semenyna <antiqdorothy@sbcglobal.net> Date: Tuesday, January 18, 2011 3:12 Subject: Re: [COLLINS] correction Re:  early Carolinian Collins To: collins@rootsweb.com > I know little of my Collins ancestry other than it began with > Octavia Collins, my grandmother, who was a daughter of J. 1. [COLLINS] Another Early Carolina Collins Brickwall
    2. George Wiley Collins b abt 1812 somewhere in SC First appears on the Murray Co census 1850 with wife S. Price (born in SC) and several children some born in SC and at least one born in GA. The order of the births of the children seem to suggest that the family may have moved to GA, back to SC, and to GA a second time. There is an Elizabeth Collins age about 50 in the household as well (George's sister or sister-in-law??????). Next appears on the Cass/Bartow Co census 1860 with wife & children. Elizabeth is no longer in the home. Next door is a Price family from SC. Next appears in Cass/Bartow Co census 1870 with another wife. Most of the children are gone. Some researchers have the older boys moving out to Arkansas or Missouri after the war. Some say the boys were killed during the war. One of the girls is said to have moved to Texas and married. That's all I know of George Wiley Collins. Elaine
