    3. Longmont FYI Longmont, Colorado Publish date: 8/19/2006 April 24, 1912 -- Aug. 16, 2006 *DonCOLLINS* of Longmont died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at the Applewood Living Center in Longmont. He was 94. Born April 24, 1912, in Junction City, Kan., to Joseph and Agnes (Webster) Collins, he grew up and attended school in Junction City. After graduating from high school, Mr. Collins attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He married Linda Lampe on Dec. 3, 1938, in St. Francis, Kan. The couple made their home in Junction City and other towns in Kansas; Colorado Springs; Sun City, Ariz.; Boulder; and Longmont from 2001 until his death. He was on active duty with the Army Corps of Engineers from 1940 until 1946. He had a varied career that gave him and his wife opportunities for travel. His employers included the Santa Fe Railroad; the Kansas Highway Department in Colby, Kan., where he was city manager; Air Defense Command; the Air Force Academy; Ken Penfold Realty; and various construction companies where he helped construct many landmark buildings, mostly in Boulder. The couple also had a floral business in Boulder. He was a life-long gardener with an interest in geraniums and tulips. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by four siblings, Kenneth Collins, Vance Collins, Josephine Yonkin and Margaret Young. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Nancy Riggs and her husband Marsh of Louisville, and Terri Hildinger and her husband Jim of Greeley; six grandchildren, Chris Baxter and his wife Michele of Pueblo, Mark Baxter of Dana Point, Calif., Leslie Demelio and her husband Tom of Colorado Springs, Kari Ansari and her husband Ahmed of Herndon, Va., Sandi Cook and her husband Jeff of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Allyson Petersen and her husband Steve of San Diego; 12 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Bruce Collins of Junction City, Kan. A private service and celebration of Mr. Collins' life will be held. Interment will be at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Howe Mortuary in Longmont.
