Hi Everyone, My most elusive Collins family member is Obediah Collins born in NC, probably Yadkin Co. or Surry Co., about 1832. He shows up in Bell Co., KY in the 1870 census age 38 and his wife Elizabeth _____ age 19, also from NC. They had at least 2 children, one dying shortly after being born and the other being named William Lewis Collins (my great grandfather), born about 1875. In 1880 Obediah and his son are in Clay Co., KY, living in the household of Jarvis Lovins. I don't know what happened to Elizabeth. Later in the year of 1880, Obediah married Lucy Powell and I believe they had children. In 1900, it seems that Obediah has died or moved on to another town. William Lewis Collins was killed in the fall of 1901 in Middlesboro, KY as he was leaving the voting polls. I think Obediah's grandparents were Obediah and Patsey Collins of NC. They had several sons who all had sons that they named after their father Obediah, each of the boys being close in age. So I really don't know which son my Obediah belonged to. It is possible that My Obediah was married and had a family in NC before moving to KY. I would appreciate any help at all on this family. Thank you, Penny
