My wishes are few but this is one of my most wanted!! I am searching for my great grandfather's parents; Who were the parents of my great grandfather? He was James A. Collins, born March 6, 1822 in Warren County, Warrenton, NC and died October 22, 1883 in Raleigh, NC. He married Susan Barnes, daughter of Wm. Barnes of Granville County, on November 28, 1844 They had six children: John B. Collins, born April 10,1845 Fannie R. Collins, born Feb. 7,1848 in Mt. Zion, Orange County, NC, married George Washington Wright William Preston Collins, born Dec. 3, 1851, Warrenton,NC, married Hellen Virginia Adams James Polk Collins, born April 1, 1851, married Ophelia Bobbitt Thomas Henry Collins, born Oct. 10,1857 in Oxford, N. C., married Nannie Link Mitchell. Daughter of R. A. Mitchell. Died in Washington, DC. James A. was a 2nd. Lt, in Co. F., 13th Battalion NC, Light Artillery. Transferred from Company A, Colonel Peter Mallett's Battalon NC Troops (Camp Holmes Guard) June 3, 1864 as 2nd. Lt. Present or accounted for through Dec. 1864. Paroled at Appomatox Court House, Va. April 9, 1865 He was a printer and was with DISTRICT DEMOCRAT in Oxford 1846 -1848. Edited REPUBLICAN BANNER IN Salisbury, NC, 1949 Owned and published THE SENTINEL, IN Winston Salem NC, 1856 Foreman of the SENTINAL, Raleigh, N. C. at time of death.
