The Mark Mott of Braintree in question is the one who has a son Adrian Mott of Braintree. The primary John Hawkins of Braintree is also Alderman of London, who is also neighbour to Joseph Loomis of Braintree + London. We need to stake out all the people in positions near and around here. Barkham is not Markham, and I am not following just it. It would probably this or close Rev. John Wilson family that into Abraham Markham's side of things ?. This 'Little' family is definitely around, must be sought further. http://books.google.co.za/books?id=_3lnAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA255&dq=john+hawkins+samuel+collins&hl=en&ei=xEuwTLjQHdvNjAeg-uVK&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&ved=0CEkQ6AEwBzgU#v=onepage&q=john%20hawkins%20samuel%20collins&f=false [1632: Jan. 18. 42. John Debnam and Samuel Smyth, churchwardens of Braintree, to the same. Since the Bishop of London's last court their minister, Samuel Collins, has conformed himself to the orders of the Church of England. [Indorsed by Bishop Laud. Half a page.]]. Dr. Samuel Collins is lucky, he has the Alderman of London (Hawkins) on his side, but SC also conforms as such. I read a note that the US Adams President made a trip to Earls Colne. [John Debnam and Samuel Smyth, churchwardens of Braintree]: This 'Smyth' family is the one catching my eye here. See below: http://books.google.co.za/books?ei=XEKwTKDTI4qRjAfVoLlu&ct=result&id=K5VpAAAAMAAJ&dq=john+hawkins+samuel+collins&q=markham#search_anchor Keep in mind too that this Goodwin family is also close and part of the picture in EN + NE. [William Bassett, John Markham, William Smyth of London 'Salter', 11-1598, John Goodwin deceased, Archdeaconry of Surrey]: This is from the book on the English Goodwins of Hartford CT, as we would say here 'nog al !!!'. That's a good TL to have a Markham coming in and to the 'Salters of London'. You must this Markham to the Top 10 (!!!). Can you find more on him, who is he ?. http://books.google.co.za/books?ei=AHCwTMjqOMfKjAe19YRc&ct=result&id=XmAHAQAAIAAJ&dq=William+Smyth+Salter+Farringdon&q=Smyth+Salter#search_anchor [Nicholas Gooding of Ludney parish of Garnethorpe (Grainthorpe?) Will n August 1661 ; proved 18 August 1662. To my only child Tommas £10. Residuary legatee and executrix: Elizabeth my wife. Witness : John Markham.] [To my daughter Mary, wife of Robert Aylett of Braintree, clothier, my messuage in Braintree in the occupation of Samuel Smyth, with remainder at her decease to her eldest son Thomas Aylett, charged with the payment of £10 to John Steele.] [John Debnam and Samuel Smyth, churchwardens of Braintree]. This 'Goodwyn' family also comes in a lot. +-R: Here is a nice piece of info for you: [1632: May 31 107 Dr Samuel Collins to Bishop Laud Has come with a kinsman whom he desires may be admitted to the rectory of Barnston which my Lord offered the writer Prays the Bishop when they come before him to let the person to be admitted know that the Bishop expects some account upon what terms the writer is settled at Braintree and to give the writer charge to suppress all conventicles of both sexes to keep his people to conformity in receiving the Sacrament and to intimate that few things are spoken or done at Braintree but come to the Bishop's ear These things spoken at this present will settle this young man in a conformable way and may procure the writer much peace One page.]. http://books.google.co.za/books?id=vpt7P_ZgCyoC&pg=PA32&dq=Samuel+Collins+Barnston&hl=en&ei=lM-wTOvYKNSRjAeknYyBAQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDQQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=Samuel%20Collins%20Barnston&f=false [1632: Dr. Samuel Collins to Bishop Laud has come with a kinsman whom he desires may be admitted to the rectory of Barnston]: This then would be none other than John Bedle M.A. who came there in 1632 ''on the resignation of Mr. Wright''. This is the same John Bedle who became Chaplain to the Earl of Warwick (Rich). http://massarch.blogspot.com/2007/11/edward-winslow.html [(Governor) Edward Winslow was apprenticed to London printer John Beadle in 1615 and subsequently posted to Leiden in Holland, where he assisted William Brewster and Thomas Brewer in their publishing of religious books that were illegal in England. In 1618 when he married his first wife Ellen (Elizabeth) Barker (b:1597 d:1621) in Leiden, he was described as a printer of London. It is likely that through his apprenticeship with Beadle that he became acquainted with John Robinson's Separatist church. John Beadle later had an ecclesiastical career beginning in 1623 in Little Leighs, a stronghold of nonconformity. He came under the influence of Thomas Hooker, then lecturer at St. Mary's, Chelmsford. Beadle himself became a leading dissenter in Barnston, where he was pastor from 1632 to 1662. In 1656 Beadle wrote his one book, "A Journal or Diary of a Thankful Christian". Winslow's first wife Elizabeth, was called a "spinster from Chatsum in England", which refers either to Chattisham, Suffolk or Chatham, Kent. She was born around 1597 and was among those who died the first year at Plymouth. Edward and Elizabeth did not have any children together. Both left Leiden with the congregation and sailed aboard the Mayflower in 1620.]: I thought this was interesting stuff: I suppose 'Lees' is probably 'Little Leighs'. This brings you right into the arena of Governor Edward Winslow. So this John Bedle was before a London printer (!!!). The New England Governor was actually apprenticed to this John Bedle (!!!). [Note]: The minister succeeding Dr. Samuel Collins of Braintree is one John Argor (!!!) [Note: Some say 'Igor' ?]. [Thomas Watson (c. 1620-1686). Excerpt from Meet the Puritans by Dr. Joel Beeke: Thomas Watson was probably born in Yorkshire. He studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1639 and a Master of Arts degree in 1642. Watson lived for a time with the Puritan family of Lady Mary Vere, the widow of Sir Horace Vere, baron of Tilbury. In 1646, Watson went to St. Stephen's, Walbrook, London, where he served as lecturer for about ten years, and as rector for another six years, filling the place of Ralph Robinson. In about 1647, Watson married Abigail Beadle, daughter of John Beadle, an Essex minister of Puritan convictions. They had at least seven children in the next thirteen years; four of them died young.]: See more here: http://timmybrister.com/2008/03/11/who-is-thomas-watson-2/ http://www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/henry-f-henry-fitz-gilbert-waters/genealogical-gleanings-in-england-parts-i-xxiiixxv-volume-1-eta/page-89-genealogical-gleanings-in-england-parts-i-xxiiixxv-volume-1-eta.shtml This William + Abigail Markham of Ipswich EN must also go into Top 10 for Markham. He should be the 'Chamberlain' there alongside one Hervey/Harvey. This William Markham's TL is roughly parallel to that of James Markham of EC. He would be b. just after 1600 sometime or so. He is NOT the WM1621 of NE. But he certainly comes right into this same Ward family of WM1621. This WM of Ipswich EN seems to be both 'Ale Merchant' + 'Chamberlain'. From the above ref.: [John Sym of Leigh in Essex, Clerk]: Which 'Leigh' is this ?. OK Artes, Dale, ler Jakes, +-R, Cosynes, from the above ref., it mentions John Sym of Leigh in Essex (!!!). There is one thing about [John Sym of Leigh in Essex], he should directly associate himself with: http://books.google.co.za/books?id=R1wLAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA397&dq=John+Sym+of+Leigh&hl=en&ei=RumwTP_RF8-TjAfgmJlC&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDkQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=John%20Sym%20of%20Leigh&f=false .... Dr. Samuel Collins vicar of Braintree who was succeeded by [the otherwise admirable] John Argor of Leigh + Braintree. John Beadle presented to Little Leighs 1623 and Barnston 1632. This John Sym of Leigh seems to be of this same place of Little Leighs, is that correct ?. This is a phrase one might want to remember: The 'Earl of Warwick's Clergy'. This will pertain to Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick, under whom several clergy would fall including Dr. Samuel Collins of Braintree EN. Simply put, Dr. Samuel Collins of Braintree, John Argor, John Bedle, John Sym, William Markham of Ipswich, the Wards, and Markhams of Woolverstone, and Markhams of EC, are of extreme closeness at least via connections etc. Extreme .... http://books.google.co.za/books?id=aD9bVaX9HdIC&pg=PA316&dq=John+Sym+of+Leigh&hl=en&ei=RumwTP_RF8-TjAfgmJlC&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CD0Q6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=John%20Sym%20of%20Leigh&f=false ==== http://books.google.co.za/books?id=DtfEzbeZXtgC&pg=PA31&lpg=PA31&dq=William+Smyth+Salter+London&source=bl&ots=iAeXgujouC&sig=ww2E5B3T5JOyc5LchVZWs4gMAns&hl=en&ei=_26wTMxXw546q7PIzwU&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CCwQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=Collyns&f=false You can notice the Edward Collins there. This is under [The Governor and Company of Merchants of London trading into the Levant Seas]. You can take note of other familiar surnames there: Martyn, Clarke, Smithe, Leete, John Eldred, Jackson, Wrighte, Locke, Edward Collyns, William Smyth, Richard Wrag, Humfrey Robinson, etc. [John Eldred + Edward Collyns]: This John Eldred here should be the same Alderman/Mayor chap. I can only suspect so far, that 'uncle' Edward Collins obviously had a life in England. OK, here I am not sure, but is this document dated [LEVANT COMPANY 43 Eliz.] ?. That is 1558+43=1601 ?. This Edward Collins can not be the Edward Collins in NE that is for sure. The NE Ed. Collins would only be b:1603 Bramford, since he has to be the same generation as Martha Collins of Earls Colne. Whatever. This Edward Collins must be better understood further. From my own thoughts and research, there seems to be a missing person anyways, and Bramford records are only partial, since they make no mention of any offspring from the first m. of John Collens 'Sailcloth Maker' etc. [Leavant=Turkey]. I 'think' some of these Levant Company merchants also extended into Russia ?. This Collins tree is affecting the Markham tree vice versa to. Not all your fault +-R. Any single correction in these trees will go a long way. What I am seeing, is that this Collins merchants must have been seriously huge, about as high as it gets in fact. I think that would be well said and written. Huge !!!. Along the lines or close to any other famous navigators of that time. One reason I can think of so far, is that the Daniel + John 'brothers' Collins of Bramford, are not mentioned maybe with a half brother from one of their father's previous marriages ?. It would be from the first m. that there might be at least one son or offspring. This Edward Collins of London merchant living 1601 is a huge clue here.
