BLUEFIELD - Claude G. Collins, age 94, of Rt. 4, Box 405 A, Bluefield (Bluewell) and formerly of River Road, passed away at his home on Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. Born on Oct. 12, 1902, in West Jefferson, N.C., he was a son of the late Calvin and Rosa Collins. He had lived most of his life in Mercer County and was retired coal miner with 30 years in the mines. He was a member of the U.M.W.A., attended the Church of God and was preceded in death by his wife, Belle Sluder Collins; one daughter, Irene Collins Isaac; three sons, Buford, Chester and Jack Collins; three grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Wilma Collins Poe and husband Don of Raeford, N.C. and Ester Collins Howard of Falls Mills, Va.; one son, Claude Junior Collins of New Castle, Del.; one brother, Raleigh Collins of Coopers; 25 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Minister Harold Goins officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road in Bluefield, Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
