MGC: The realization of Drake will have quite some impact on the area of this tree no doubt. +-R your tree is going to be very high in stature, and one must consider Bishops, several of them, associations to even Presidents, Drake (!!!), place of Padua, surgeons, several Bishops came from the weaving industry etc., waterways into inland England, and all the way up those rivers, like London, Earls Colne, up by Yarmouth, Devon, Somerset, Ipswich, Colchester, etc. I am going to place names of note like this one to be noted: [Jennings!!!]. This [Rich Haiward] of EC should relate to the one [Haiwood] in Colchester: [1713 Elizabeth MARKHAM & Edward HAIWOOD Colchester All Saints]. This possibly means that there is at least one surviving DDM line coming out from Colchester to after 1700. Dale, Artes, the World: I need to know who this Elizabeth Markham is (!!!). I can now see a clear connection of several families to Devon (!!!). A lot of people here in EC have become extremely closely related and to DDM lines. [Rich Hayward, [EC] m. [Tabitha Maninge]. This surname will equate to [Mannings] or similar, which is also Drake related and will include [Robert Muninges of Hethersett Norfolk]. [Jn Pennifather deceased Joan Adams his daughter wife of Wm Adams vicar of Earls Colne is his executrix]. To DDMers: You will seriously want to start adding all of the associated families to any surname around the Abrm Markham of EC, i.e., Prentice, Adhams, Andrews, Potter, Turner, Heywood, Abbott, Bowles, every Collins, Martin, Harris(son), Litle, Man, Hatch, Allen, Cook, Jennings, Smith, etc. I can't name them all. It is said that Captain Thomas Cook was probably b. in Earls Colne. This Hatch family of EC will be related to he DDM line via m. This Allen family is a truly large family to follow that is clear. Your DDM is probably related to Harlakenden in several close marriage ties. One must clearly note what is on this 'Diary of RJ' website. Several of these families will connect to Devon around place names I have already given out. This is not a small tree, it is huge with many many branches to follow. Wods !!!. *** ***: You might recall one side note of mine: [Edward Collins of Medford, attorney of Miss Mary Cooke of the Parish of Martins-in-the-Fields, to John Rolph (Rolfe) of Nantucket Island.]. Not sure, but she might be the wife of [Samuel Annesley, Esq. of Westminster] who was [1662: Ejected from St. Giles, the Foes follow him out of Anglican church to become a non-conformer]. There seems to be this Cook - Wilcox - Briggs - Cory connections. The [Parker] family of EC must connect I suppose too. Possibly for Thomas Markham lineage: It can be noted that the Greenleaf family coming into NE in MA is from one Edmund Greenleaf from Devon. They connect to the Gookin? family there too. The Greenleaf family is also supposed to be in Colchester too, and possibly Ipswich ?. The Thomas Markham and Susan Greenleaf of VA was it ?, some mention of food for thought was that there might be some connection to John Rolf there (Woolf ?). The Greenleaf family, as one might expect now in this arena, is possibly from France. This surname ''might'' also be spelt ''Greenhough'' ?. From the St. Mary Woolnoth church in London register there is: [1609 May 6. John Greenehocke, of St. Margaret, New Fish Strete, and Johan Rolfe, of this Parish, servant to Mr. Herringhooke.] Here one John Greenleaf/Greenhough (?) m. Jane Rolfe in 1609. The TL is excellent for some further meaning. In the early 1600 and later on, French Huguenots came to England etc. Some notes: John Rolfe, Planter [Nantucket-Newberry-Camb-VA] m. Mary Scullard and had with others Rebecca Rolfe who d. in [Medford, MA]. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MARKHAM-UK/2009-01/1230863375 http://www.scribd.com/doc/28425271/Cooke-Genealogy Above: The very long Cook and Joslen connection etc. in London etc. This Sir Thomas Cook connects to Gidea Hall, and primary residence at St. Peter le Poer London (!!!). http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~albgenealogy/Wilcox/borpafg02.htm I do not know, but [Bayles] might be Bales, Upshaw might also be Upchur? back in England ?. This [Church] family of EC must be noted (!!!). Several persons of interest might be found in the 'Register of Scholars admitted to Colchester School' (?). The Goldsmiths of London in this L1 area must all be noted and listed. The John Collins Goldsmith of London should be yours +-R (!!!). He is yours. This ''Friday Street'' in London must be noted whenever you see it. It will have further meaning to your tree. I might be a church there, but also people living in that street to be noted further. We truly do require a proper list of all the mayors and aldermen of London, and the one to note as well, is one Sir Martin Bowes Alderman of London. The surname of Martin must be noted all round too. [1548: Pacyence, daughter of Martyn Bowes, son of the said Sir Martyn Bowes, Citizen & Goldsmythe of London.] The NL Markhams are not far away at all. This would be the Markhams of Northamptonshire line of fame going under the name M'CUM. [1655? John Wilson and Alice Bailey, both of the Parish of St. Mary Woolnoth.] *** *** [1656 Nov. 11. Martin Smith, of the Parish of St. Mary Woolnoth, and Elizabeth Markham, of the Parish of St. Buttolph, Bishopsgate.] [1580 Feb. 26. Bridgitt, daughter of John Collins, Goldsmythe.] [1584 Sep. 29. John, son of John Collyns, Goldsmythe.] This should be yours +-Rs (!!!). This is a good one for the TL given. This John Collyns Goldsmith must be in the region of first cousin to the John Collens 'Salter of London', and also one Thomas? Collens Alderman nearby. *** [1607 May 25. John Collins and Elizabeth Andrewe.]: Not sure if this m. is the one we might be looking for just yet ?. And one day after: [1607 May 26. William Brigges and Anne Newton.] [1619 Mar. 30. A Crisome child of John Acton's, Goldsmith.] [1601 Aug. 16. John, son of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1604 Nov. 18. Elizabeth, daughter of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1609 Sep. 20. Thomas, son of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1613 Mar. 20. Jane, daughter of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1615 Blandyne, daughter of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1617 Thomas, son of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1631 Aug , Mary, daughter of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1632 June 13. Elizabeth, daughter of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1634 Feb. 22 Isobell?, son of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1631 April 19. Reginald Forster, of the Inner Temple, and Blandina Acton, of St. Mathewe, in Friday Streete, by licence.] [1639 May 2. Sir Henry Skipwith, of Coats, Leicestershire, Knight and Baronett, and Blandina Acton, of St. Mathew, Friday Streete, Widdow, by licence.] [169? Thomas Harrington, of Acton, Middlesex, Batchellor, and Elizabeth Andrews, of this Parish, Spinster, by banns.] [1602 Elizabeth, daughter of John Acton, Goldsmith.][Buried] [1610 Thomas, son of John Acton, Goldsmith.][Buried] [???? Emme, wife of John Acton, Goldsmith.] [1614 Francis, wiffe of John Acton, Goldsmith.][Buried] [1619 Mar. 30. A Crisome child of John Acton's, Goldsmith.][Buried] [1631 Mar. 13. Thomas, son of Sir Robert Markham, Baronet, and the Lady Mary, his wife, borne June 1, baptized by Mr. Williams, of St. Mildred, Poultrie.]: NL Markham lineage. [1656 *** Nov. 11. Martin Smith, of the Parish of St. Mary Woolnoth, and Elizabeth Markham, of the Parish of St. Buttolph, Bishopsgate.] [1659? Jan. 19. John Jesse and Elizabeth Woolf, of St. John Baptist Parish.] [Philadelphia Cotton alias Lynch, wife of Thomas Cotton. Esq.]: There is going to be enormous ''crossing over'' of different dna Markhams lines no doubt. This GODDARD family is already a while in London, more than likely the same direct family into which the Archbishop William Markham m. Sarah Goddard, also a Goddard merchant family of London. What is both curious and extreme here, is the pure connection to Cotton - Vere - Goddard (!!! !!! !!!). CHRIM: Crisome: Meaning 'Cream' maybe 'Oyle', used to anoint a child by a Bishop with maybe a cloth over its head ?. Seems to be babies annointed by Bishops (!!!). http://books.google.com/books?id=w8dPAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA117&dq=meaning:+crisome&hl=en&ei=dR85TObaCdvNjAf_xoHtAw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=meaning%3A%20crisome&f=false The one extreme chance is that Martha Collins of EC's bapt. record might have been in St. Leonard's in London, which was all burnt in the fire of London. Another thought: http://books.google.com/books?id=BiQkAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA30&lpg=PA30&dq=John+Collyns+Great+Marlow&source=bl&ots=L0QRcrpiZq&sig=ntFA21eEruqqV41gbqWRaVwbjMI&hl=en&ei=H4o5TPD8Bsq6jAfp_bn9Aw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ6AEwADgK#v=onepage&q=John%20Collyns%20Great%20Marlow&f=false http://hiwaay.net/~paul/shakspere/shakwill.html Can't recall my exact email, but I did mention maybe Collins was it ???, being connected to the ''Globe'' in London. I didn't know they had electricity in those days !!!. No wonder it took like 50 people to change a ''Globe''. Not sure if this is yours, but add it for further review. There is also one Shakespeare in EC. [Francis Collyns, the Stratford solicitor], [1616, Shakespeare summoned his lawyer Francis Collins], [... The whole Will is in fact in the handwriting of Francis Collyns, the Warwick solicitor]. Sounds like one of yours +R- ?. [Ralph Josselyn, knight, mayor of the city of London, John Markham.]: This will be the early Ralph Joslen and connects to the one famous Judge Sir John Markham who connects here to the trial of Sir Thomas Cooke. It was from this trial he was asked to leave his position as Judge. *** *** *** *** *** [Nicholas Markham of St. Dunstan m:04-02-1584 Alice Muninges in St. Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex, England.]: I have some single obscure note that one Nicholas Markham pops into EC. Can we find out more on these persons here ?. The William Markham 'Marchant of Ipswich' m. Abigail Markham is the same person it seems as [Ipswich Borough archives, 1255-1835: a catalogue - Page 216 David Allen, David H. [A winged lion sejant Or circled round the head. Argent supporting a lyre Or. (Markham, Markant, of Ipswich. A. Davy, St. Peter's church.)]. He is a chamberlain and ale merchant. Their TL is about the same as Jas Markham of EC, but I think I am going to put this on in 10th place for now. [Nicholas Collin, Black Notley, yeoman.
