Hello all! I am on what seems tio be a very difficult quest. I am searching for information on where my great great grandfather Jacob Collins b. 1846-1853 Winona, Shannon Co., Missouri came from lineage wise. I know that he was married to a Mary Collins and later married a Rachel Duty. My great grandfather was Francis Marion Collins. I have a bunch of information gathered from various sources and one is a handwritten note that says that he was the brother of Isaiah Collins(son of Harmon) and can thus can be traced back to David Collins 1750. However, I do not see any brothers of Isaiah with the name of Jacob. This leads me to the conclusion that Jacob is not the first name and may instead be his middle name. Also, would Harmon Collins and previous Collins of that line be considered "Melungeon"? As a kid my father always thought we were Irish. Thansk for any help!
