My great-great-granduncle's name was Francis Marion Collins, but he was born 19 Nov 1834 in Warren County, MO, little young to be Jacob's father. His parents were Smith Collins, 1804 VA - 1870 OR, and Eliza Emily Wyatt, 1812 KY - 1872 OR. Smith's parents were George Collins, c1779 VA - 1845 MO, and Jane Eddings, c1780 VA - 1854 MO. George's parents were William Collins, born (year unknown) in VA and died after 1825 in VA, and Jane Blakely, probably born and died in VA. William fought in the Revolutionary War, so he may have been born mid-1850s. William Collins' father was English. My Francis Marion Collins emigrated to Oregon in 1846 with his parents and siblings, and later married Martha Elizabeth Blake, born 1839 MO. They had at least 2 children, Blanch and Bertha. (Francis is the brother of my great-great-grandmother, Jane Elizabeth Collins Nealy.) I have not done much research to the side on my Collins line and I have not found a Jacob, Isaiah, David (1750) or Harmon in my line so far. I do have a David Crockett Collins, 1845 MO - 1875 OR, and a D. C. Collins, born 1876, and D. J. Collins, born 1873. D.C. and D. J. may have been named after their father, Douglas Wyatt Collins, who was named after his grandfather. In my genealogy program notes for William, I have a very short reference to his brother Richard. I may have more information not posted, but I can't access it right now. However, Warren County, where my George Collins and family settled after moving from Virginia in the early 1800s, is only about 100 miles north of Winona, MO. I believe that some of my Collins (George's offspring?) moved south of Warren County, but, again, I can't lay my hands on the papers with that information. (I'm still trying to get my 30+ years of research organized, scanned and posted to my computer program!) Do you know if your Collins line came from Virginia? If so, perhaps we have a connection from there, between your David and my William. I am on what seems tio be a very difficult quest. I am searching for nformation on where my great great grandfather Jacob Collins b. 1846-1853 inona, Shannon Co., Missouri came from lineage wise. I know that he was married o a Mary Collins and later married a Rachel Duty. My great grandfather was rancis Marion Collins. I have a bunch of information gathered from various sources and one is a andwritten note that says that he was the brother of Isaiah Collins(son of armon) and can thus can be traced back to David Collins 1750. However, I do not ee any brothers of Isaiah with the name of Jacob. This leads me to the onclusion that Jacob is not the first name and may instead be his middle name. Also, would Harmon Collins and previous Collins of that line be considered Melungeon"? As a kid my father always thought we were Irish. Thansk for any elp!
