    1. Collins
    2. Hello, I found this in my papers and was wondering if anyone knew this line. I hope it will help someone. This is from a file I found at the library, so I will type it as it is. This is from a Mr. Troy Young Collins to Mr. Leonard Andres. I exvhanged letters in 1960 with Mrs. E. A. Leonard, who wrote me that you had a Collins manuscropt for rent. Tif this is so, I'd like to rent it. I've made random notes from most states east of the Mississippi River, hoping to tie in to my line. One reason I wonder is that in 1880 four brothers told the same census taker that their father (my great-grandfather) was born in four states---Va, Tenn, Ill, Ala. My Collins line is as follows: John Collins b 18 March 1782, no more shown Reuben Edward Collins b 22 Jan 1800 no more shown Brothers, I suppose of my Elijah William Collins, below, as the same Bible lists all. Elijah William Collins b 5 Feb 1797 d 8 Aug 1840 in De Kalb County, Alabama married Jane Murphy b 17 June 1802 Tenn, d 5 Sept 1885 Tigertown, Lamar County, Texas, they wed on 16 June 1819. Manurva Young Collins b 20 July 1820 Tenn, d 28 Jan 1824 Rhea County, Tenn. Edward Forebern Collins b 14 April 1822 Rhea County, Tenn, d 20 Oct 1895 Tigertown, Lamar County, Texas (my grandfather) Calvin Preston Collins b 19 July 1824 Rhea Co., Tenn d 22 July 1827 Rhea County, Tenn. Robert Murphy Collins b 18 Nov 1826 Rhea Co., Tenn d ? was living in De Kalb Co., Alabama in 1852 Albion Young Collins b 12 March 1829 Rhea Co., Tenn d 21 Feb Tigertown, Lamar Co., Texas John Lewis Collins b 7 Feb 1831 Schuyler? Co.,Ill, d 11 Nov 1911 Tigertown Palmyra F(leetwood?) Collins b 26 May 1833 Alabama d aft 1884 De Kalb Co., Alabama Mary Jane Collins b 11 March 1834 Alabama d 7 July 1838 (probably in De Kalb Co., Alabama) Mahaley Jane Collins b 11 Aug 1835 Alabama, d in 1885 at or near Tigertown. Alfred Clay Collins b 10 June 1840 De Kalb Co., Alabama d 10 Nov 1911 at Petty, buried at Tigertown (a village 8 mi N of Petty and 18 mi W of paris, Lamar County, Texas.) Above Children: Edward Forebern wed Mary Elizabeth McFarland abt 1845 in De Kalb or Jackson Co., Alabama Robert Murphy wed M. K. Ward (Wond?) 1 Sept 1852 in De Kalb Co., Alabama Albion Young wed Ellen Elizabeth Hadden 16 Aug 1866 in Lamar Co., Texas John Lewis wed Jane Frazier 11 Aug 1853 in De Kalb Co., or Jackson Co., Alabama. Palmyra F(leetwood?) wed William Chitwood abt 1850 in De Kalb Co., Alabama Mahaley Jane wed Horace F. Clark abt 1854 in De Kalb Co., Alabama or Lamar Co., Texas Alfred Clay we Evaline Frances Reed 11 Jan 1866 in Lamar Co., Texas Above: Edward Forebern Collins and wife and son, with above John Lewis Collins and wife and dau---all came in the same wagon to Lamar Co., Texas in Dec 1854, Where Edward Forebern Collins was elected Co. Judge in 1858 and 1860. They, their Mother, Jane (Murphy) Collins, Albion Young Collins, and Mahaley Jane (Collins) Clark--all were in the 1860 census of Lamar Co., Texas. Above: Albion Young Collins enlisted in Mexican War from Lebanon, De Kalb Co., Alabama. He was in the Gold Rush (page 74) 38 of the 1850 census of Sutter Co., California). He and above John Lewis Collins and Alfred Clay Collins--all three-enlisted in the Confederate Cavalry from Lamar Co., Texas I don't know the given name of the father of my great-grandfather Elijah William Collins. I've been concentrating on Va, Tenn, Ill, Alabama , but I may be looking in the wrong states. I've been wonderinf if I shouldn't do more searching in NC or SC, or even Ky., or Ohio, or Ind., or Pa. If you have a Collins manuscript for rent, I'd appreciate knowing your price, as it might help me identify may great-great-grandfather________Collins. My people were in Rhea County, Tenn, 1821-1829, but East Tenn. is a hard place to make headway in. My great-grandfather Elijah William Collins and his brother-in-law Robert Murphy were in the 1830 combined census of Schuyler- McDonough Counties, Illinois, and they were in the 4th Regt. of the Illinois Mounted Volunteers in the 1832 Black Hawk War, in U.S. Service (Abraham Lincoln was in the same Regiment). Signed T.Y. Collins The researcher of this manuscript has long since passed away. I found this file at the library, and made copies of it, in hopes of finding my Collins ancestors. So far I have had very little luck for myself, but thought I would email some of this to the list in hopes of helping others. Happy Hunting. If this helps anyone, Please let me know. Sincerely, Lori
