Fred: In this time period there are the Arnold Collection of Vital Records (available w/fee from NEHGS); also historical cemetery collection. The RIHS has WONDERFUL information on early RI (I have many RI ancestors), and the VR collection is invaluable. I am not, however, a current member of NEHGS, but your Charles Collins comes up in a search using dates of 1745-1810. Perhaps SKS on this list who is a member can do a look-up for you. I'd also suggest joining a RI list at Rootsweb. Probably more helpful on this particular query, as the Collins list is very diverse and all the RI families seem to be interrelated. (I know, I'm descended from 1/2 of them). http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rigenweb/mailist.html Marilyn Arnold -----Original Message----- From: collins-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:collins-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Fred Murphy Sent: Monday, August 13, 2012 9:57 PM To: COLLINS@rootsweb.com Subject: [COLLINS] Charles Collins, Warren, RI Further to my earlier inqury about this man: he was born at Warren, Rhode Island ca. 1745 and died there ca. 1810; married at Warren ca. 1772 Hannah Turner; they had 3 children, including Capt. Charles Collins, born 1773, died 1845, married ca. 1800 Lydia Bradford; was Lt. Governor of Rhode Island 1824-1833. I'm looking particularly for confirmation of his parents, who may have been John and Mary Avery Collins; John Collins was a member of the Continental Congress 1777-1780 and was Governor of Rhode Island 1786-1790. I'm also interested in reliable source material for this Collins family. Than you so much for your suggestions - RI is terra incognita for me, but I'm learning that 90% of the colonial families use about twenty-five given names and they're all inter-related - every bit of advice I can get will be useful!
