Marilyn -- There is a John Collins in Gallia County, Ohio--and I thought that he was my John Collins, as his step-father and step siblings were all there, but that hasn't been borne out so far. The John R. Collins that I am searching for is the son of Robert Collins and Anna Hampton--Robert Collins is the son of John Collins of Caroline County, VA. I think that John R. may have moved on to Montgomery County, TN as one shows up there in the 1820 census--and there are Hamptons there, relatives of his mother. I am still digging, will keep your email on file and if I hit paydirt, will forward info to you if you think we are on the same track.
