The Conference will begin on Friday, October 7th at Noon with vendors setting up and early registration beginning at 7:00 PM. Later that evening from 8:00 – 9:00 William Lynwood Montell, professor emeritus of Folk Studies at Western Kentucky University and author of Ghosts Across Kentucky, Haunted Houses, and more, will entertain with his program on Kentucky Haunted Houses. Free snacks provided. Afterwards we will compare notes on our various family trees and get to know each other and find new family! On Saturday the Conference will kick-off at 8:30 AM with the opening ceremony, followed by programs throughout the day on such subjects as Mormon Church Records, Melungeon Research, Land Patents and Land Grants, and Courthouse Records. Highlights of the day are Kentucky Chautauqua performers/speakers, such as Jim Prichard and Ernest Tucker; and Johnson County’s own, Ronnie Blair who portrays Mathias “Tice†Harmon, Indian fighter, hunter and neighbor of Jenny Wiley. Lunch will be on your own. During the lunch hour authentic mountain music by a local music/vocal group “From The Heart†will be provided in the Gazebo. Throughout the day on Saturday, demonstrations such as quilting, chair bottoming, book publishing, scrap booking and DAR information, will take place in the Commons Area. Also Historical Societies from surrounding counties will be present. Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM, with an auction taking place at 7:00 PM to be conducted by Jim Gambill of Century 21. The Conference will conclude on Sunday, October 9th with a group breakfast followed by a tour of the “Old Town Cemetery†– weather permitting.
