Tracing GGF Edly Hamilton Collins, Ephraim Thornton, Edly Benson. Father of Edly Hamilton probably is John E. Collins b in Maryland then thru VA, SC, Ga. Hall, d. Cobb County. Any inform appreciated. Marvin Hardin
I have traced my family back though John Thomas Collins to John Louis Collins born 20 May 1843 who married Milly Ann Walker. I believe his father was John Louis Collins b in Wake Field , N. C. ho maried Mary O' Neil. Was the father Creed Collins b 1777 who married Lydia Lacy? An the only other link I have is that his father was Andrew H. Collins who married a Martha. Thanks Frances

I have been researching the Collins family from Lowndes and Berrien Counties. Specifically the family of John W. Collins from SC and Mary Giddens from GA. 2 of their daughters married the sons of Elias Thomas from Cat creek, Lowndes county. Elbert Thomas married Martha A. Collins and John N. Thomas married Pheobe Collins. I have alot of information on this family but and stuck on the parents of John W. Collins Teri Schneider
Look in the book: 2000 Descendants of Peter Luna. I will check my info to see if I have anything on J.J. Collins. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
Does anyone have any information on a J. J. Collins (Jack Johnson Collins) born on October 29, 1865 in Marshall County, Tenn. He was my great grandfather and married Raincy C. Luna. I have no other information on J. J. Collins other than his birthdate, place of birth, date of death and burial place. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dottie
Look at the James Collins line from Isle of Wright Co., VA to Franklin Co., NC. His sons moved to Marshall Co., TN. They are the most likely ancestors for a Collins in Pulaski. I will also check the Daniel Collins line from NC. I don't have full access to my database at the moment so it may be a while. Read only if you have time for God Let me tell you, make sure you read all the way to the bottom. I almost deleted this email but I was blessed when I got to the end. Subject: READ ONLY IF YOU HAVE TIME FOR God God, when I received this e-mail, I thought... I don't have time for this... And, this is really inappropriate during work. Then, I realized that this kind of thinking is... Exactly, what has caused lot of the problems in our world today. We try to keep God in church on Sunday morning... Maybe, Sunday night... And, the unlikely event of a midweek service. We do like to have Him around during sickness... And, of course, at funerals. However, we don't have time, or room, for Him during work or play... Because... That's the part of our lives we think... We can, and should, handle on our own. May God forgive me for ever thinking... That... there is a time or place where... HE is not to be FIRST in my life. We should always have time to remember all HE has done for us. If, You aren't ashamed to do this... Please follow the directions. Jesus said, "If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father." Not ashamed? Pass this on ONLY IF YOU MEAN IT!! Yes, I do Love God. HE is my source of existence and Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day Without Him, I will be nothing. But, with Christ, HE strengthens me. (Phil 4:13) This is the simplest test. If You Love God... And, are not ashamed of all the marvelous things HE has done for you... Send this to ten people and the person who sent it to you! I don't think I know 10 people who would admit they love Jesus. Do You love Him? THE POEM I knelt to pray but not for long, I had too much to do. I had to hurry and get to work For bills would soon be due. So I knelt and said a hurried prayer, And jumped up off my knees. My Christian duty was now done My soul could rest at ease. All day long I had no time To spread a word of cheer. No time to speak of Christ to friends, They'd laugh at me I'd fear. No time, no time, too much to do, That was my constant cry, No time to give to souls in need But at last the time, the time to die. I went before the Lord, I came, I stood with downcast eyes. For in his hands God held a book; It was the book of life. God looked into his book and said "Your name I cannot find. I once was going to write it down... But never found the time" Now do you have the time to pass it on? Make sure that you scroll through to the end. Easy vs. Hard Why is it so hard to tell the truth but Yet so easy to tell a lie? Why are we so sleepy in church but Right when the sermon is over we suddenly wake up? Why is it so hard to talk about God but yet so easy to talk about nasty stuff? Why is it so boring to look at a Christian magazine, but yet so easy to look at a nasty one? Why is it so easy to delete a Godly e- mail, but yet we forward all of the nasty ones? Why are the churches getting smaller but yet the bars and dance clubs are getting larger? Do you give up? Think about it . Are you going to forward this, or delete it? Just remember-God is watching you. Prayer Wheel-Let's see the devil stop this one! Here's what the wheel is all about. When you receive this, say a prayer for the person that sent it to you.... That's all you have to do.... There is nothing attached.... This is so powerful.... Do not stop the wheel, please.... Of all the free gifts we may receive, Prayer is the very best one.... There are no costs, but wonderful rewards.. GOD BLESS! May God keep you and bless you. If this doesn't give you chills, nothing will...this message is very true. Hope you are all as blessed as I was from this story. I wonder how many people will delete this without reading it because of the title on it? There once was a man named George Thomas, pastor in a small New England town. One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor Thomas began to speak..."I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright. I stopped the lad and asked, "What you got there, son?" "Just some old birds," came the reply. "What are you gonna do with them?" I asked "Take 'em home and have fun with 'em," he answered. "I'm gonna tease 'em and pull out their feathers to make 'em fight. I'm gonna have a real good time." "But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do?" "Oh, I got some cats," said the little boy "They like birds. I'll take 'em to them." The pastor was silent for a moment. "How much do you want for those birds, son?" "Huh?? !!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plain old field birds. They don't sing. They ain't even pretty!" "How much?" the pastor asked again. The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, "$10?" The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone. The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free. Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor began to tell this story. One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting. "Yes, sir, I just caught the world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!" "What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked. Satan replied, "Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!" "And what will you do when you get done with them?" Jesus asked. "Oh, I'll kill 'em," Satan glared proudly. "How much do you want for them?" Jesus asked. "Oh, you don't want those people. They ain't no good. Why, you'll take them and they'll just hate you. They'll spit on you, curse you and kill you. You don't want those people!!" "How much?" He asked again. Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, "All your blood, tears and your life." Jesus said, "DONE!" Then He paid the price. The pastor picked up the cage he opened the door and he walked from the pulpit. Notes: Isn't it funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Isn't it funny how someone can say "I believe in God" but still follow Satan (who, by the way, also "believes" in God). Isn't it funny how you can send a thousand jokes through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing? Isn't it funny how when you go to forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it to them. Isn't it funny how I can be more worried about what other people think of me than what God thinks of me. I pray, for everyone who sends this to their entire address book, they will be blessed by God in a way special for them. And send it back to the person who sent it, to let them know that indeed it was sent out to many more.
Does anyone on the COLLINS lists have the COLLINS in the Eastern Shore of DE/MD in the 1600 and 1700s sorted out? I am trying to find which family in that area at that time my JOHN COLLINS belongs to. Is any DNA being done? Thanks, Verna
Is there any DNA testing going on for COLLINS in the E. Shore MD/DE. Seems there a three separate lines living in that area in late 1600 and 1700. I have a direct descendent JOHN COLLINS and can't determine which line he should be in. Also, I have one brother who I might convince to submit a dna sample, but our male line ends in 1815 in KY, and from there on we continue on with RHODA COLLINS m. DAVID HOPKINS. Does the DNA have to follow a male line straight down to me? Thanks for any help you can give me. Verna
This is my first post to the list. I hope I am doing it properly. I am looking for anyone that might have any connections to any of the following Collins line. Jefferson Collins - my great grandfather (may possibly have a middle name of Samuel). He was born in Va. or W. Va. in Aug. 1844. He was married to a Mary E. Peterson. This info. I have from my grandfather's death certificate. Mary Peterson was born Aug. 1868 possibly Indiana. They had the following children that I can account for. Emeline (Nancy) b. 1867 Ia. Vanettie or Janetta? b. 1868 Ia. Alice b. May 1870 Wi. James A. b. 1872 Ia. Della M. b. Mar. 1874 Ia. Married Henry Lewis) Lillian (Lily) b. 1877 Willard S. b. May 12, 1879 Mo. ( My grandfather) Married Bessie B. Baker May 5, 1912. Died July 14, 1938 Okla. Buried McDonald Co., Mo. Emma E. b. June 1881 Mo. Elbertus E. (Albertus) b. April 1886 Mo.RTetta Mamie b. Sept. 9, 1888 Married Myrtle Mary Harnar Dec. 10, 1910. Retta Mamie b. Sept. 9, 1888. Married Curtis Marion Harnar Feb. 13, 1909. Died Sept. 30, 1978 Santa Clara, Ca. I have been at a stand still the past couple of years on Jefferson Collins. According to family info. he died after 1915. He was still living in 1910, on the Mo. census. I think his wife Mary Peterson died abt. 1905. Jefferson was listed as Wd. on the 1910 census. I have sent to Mo. and Okla. for death certificates on him and have had no lluck. I think Jefferson's father was Cline Collins b. abt. 1805 Va. migrated to Wi. after 1850 and before 1860. Hoping to hear from anyone with any connections or info. Thanks. Raye Dean
Hello Collins Web Administrator: I am Garry Robert Felty. Thank you for honoring my request to join your group. I am the son of Robert Thomas Blaine Felty - aka Blaine Robert Felty (Mancelona, Antrim Co., MI) and Pearl Maxine Collins (Smith Branch, Greenup Co., KY). Pearl is the d/o Benjamin Harrison Collins - (Greenup, KY) and Malinda Mae Lemaster (Johnson Co., KY). Benjamin is the s/o Jonathon Edward Collins (?VA) and Nancy Jane Berry (Floyd, KY). Jonathon was the s/o Edward "Ned / Neddie" Collins and Susan ??? Edward & Susan are a brick wall item for me. My grandmother's notes indicate they were married in Old Town KY in 1840 & farmed there for a while then moved to Old??? Virginia where they raised their family. John Edward was born in 1842 & had a sister Mary Collins (Stout) & a Sister Susan Collins (Clevenger). I need any data available on Edward and Susan. After Edwards' death (?? date ??place) Susan married a John Fields & lived in KY until John was placed in an institution for the insane. Would also like data on Mary Collins (Stout) who had a cotton farm in ??Texas (I believe John Edward & Huldy's son James went to live with them around 1891) & Susan Collins (Clevenger). Nancy Jane Berry had been previously married to 1. John Dean & had a son William Montville Dean (I have no data on John Dean - assumed he died) 2. Millard Click & had a son Millard Fillmore Click (I believe they were divorced) prior to her marriage to my gr, grandfather Jonathon Edward Collins. John Edward Collins was first married to a Mahulda "Huldy" Johnson & had a son James Collins (1872) & a daughter who died young. Huldy also died young. I do not know where they were married (I assume cir 1868 right after he was discharged from Civil War duty - Co "C" 39th Reg. KY Infantry) nor where Huldy was born or died. I do have a list of her siblings but nothing on her parents. I have not found them in KY or VA census; same for Neddie & Susan collins. Jonathon Edward Collins and Nancy Jane also had a son - Ruford Andrew "Andy" Collins m. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mccarty. They had a son Rev Emanuel Collins. I have seen mention of the Rev. Emanuel Collins in Tennessee and WVA but havn't been able to communicate with the inquirers. No response to my e-mails. Would enjoy any data or further communication, pictures, etc. on any of the above. I have some old pictures & tin types from my grand mothers trunk (Berry, Thornsberry, Click, Collins, Dean, Lemaster, & related families - most unidentified). Wish you all good hunting. The COLLINS Family Mail List is not moderated. Any message sent to the above address is automatically posted to everyone on the list, including both COLLINS-L and COLLINS-D. While I, acting as your List Administrator, in no way wish to ever stifle free discussion, I do reserve the right to step in should a flame war erupt and become tedious for other subscribers, or if someone should become unseemly (unbridled and/or excessive use of profanity, for instance). I will remove anyone from the list of subscribers who flagrantly abuses the dictates of common civility and threatens to cause mass desertion by the COLLINS Family Mail List subscribership. Before you are tempted to send anything that could be interpreted by the receiver as flaming, please remember that the person you are posting to may very well be a "Cousin!" whose help you may need in order to progress on one or more of your families of interest! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ E. WHY NO ATTACHMENTS NO ATTACHMENT should ever be posted to the COLLINS Family Mail List, or any other mail list for that matter! Your cooperation in this matter will be most appreciated by many of the list's subscribers! If you have a file that you might wish to share, please alert the mail list to your willingness to share and state what format it might be in, asking those interested parties to contact you. Then send your files to those parties who have indicated their receptiveness to receive your material. Problems have arisen whenever someone has posted attachments to any of the many mail lists to which I do, and have, subscribed. Those problems that are usually encountered tend to fall in one of two general categories: 1. Unless an attachment is in standard text, some, perhaps even a majority of the mail list's subscribers may not be able to open an attachment in any readable format. 2. Most attachments will usually exceed the 20 k allowable size for some of our subscribers e-mail programs, and other subscribers may have ISPs that are not set up to handle sizable files in incoming e-mail. This can create insurmountable problems some times, perhaps even causing the loss of e-mail for all that ISP's subscribers. Attachments may not cause problems for either you, or for me personally, but not all subscribers to the COLLINS Family Mail List may be quite so fortunate. Additionally, some of our subscribers must pay for their Internet access based on time on-line, while some even access the Internet via long-distance connection. It is most unfair to expect each and every subscriber so obligated, to have to pay for extra undesired download time for files that may, or may not be, of any use to them whatsoever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ F. SENDING COMMANDS TO ROOTSWEB: To subscribe, unsubscribe or make other changes to your mailing list subscription, you will send "commands" to the computer & the SmartList software on RootsWeb. Please do not be affronted should you suddenly find yourself having been unsubscribed when not your intention. ISPs are frequently undergoing upgrades and whenever that happens, or any other misfortune causes a break in service, should a post made to the mail list bounce four times to your address, ROOTSWEB will automatically unsubscribe you. I have even had this happen to me before! Imagine my surprise to find myself as List Administrator to be receiving a "You have been removed" message to my own mail list! Should this happen to you please feel free to resubmit a SUBSCRIBE command to the server to reinstate your list subscribership. To send COMMANDS to RootsWeb in order to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. use: [email protected] (for mail list version) [email protected] (for the digest version) a. To manage your subscription, send an e-mail message to the address above and use any of the following commands, typed within the body of your e-mail message. Type ONLY one of the commands as it is shown below. Do not add any extra words or lines of text: subscribe unsubscribe get file welcome.txt b. Do NOT use a signature file attached to the e-mail message. The software reads your message and tries to answer each command it finds. When it runs across your signature file it gets a bit confused and will send you a message stating something like 'Do not recognize command 'Jones'. Do not recognize command "Smith", etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ G. OFF-TOPIC POSTS, DIFFERING OPINIONS, AND/OR FLAMING The COLLINS-L Mail List is NOT to be used as a medium for alerting subscribers to unsubstantiated and unverified VIRUS alerts, calls for action in regard to unverified FCC action, the American Cancer Society, or any other unsubstantiated and unverified alert or call to action! Differing opinions will invariably arise from time to time, but as long as we each resolve to seek the truth, wherever it might lead, good healthy discussion may well be of benefit to others on the list who might pick up something of benefit in our on-line exchange. No one should ever construe having a differing opinion as posing a personal assault or flame! Personal verbal assault, inflammatory speech, and/or other such abuse should never be posted to the COLLINS Family Mail List for any reason! The COLLINS Family Mail List should NEVER be used for publicly FLAMING another subscriber for any reason!! Before you post to the list, please read your post and consider how you might feel if you were the recipient of the post you are about to make! None of us can possibly know who may be able to be of some assistance to us in our own personal search for family! There is no justifiable excuse for any post being made to the COLLINS Family Mail List lacking common civility. PLEASE feel free to check with your List Administrator before you send any post to the COLLINS Family Mail List that does not deal with COLLINS family research in any way! Any subscriber who flagrantly and/or habitually abuses their list privileges will be advised that continued abuse can jeopardize their membership to the COLLINS Family Mail List, and should that abuse continue, will be removed from the subscribership of the mail list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H. Hi everyone, I need some advice. I located a Collins ancestor in an 1800 census, Northampton Co, Mt Bethel, Pa. What channels can I take to go back even further? Since the 1800 census gives such limited information, I don't even know if my Barny Collins was born in the US or not. I just don't know where to go next. I appreciate the help. Millie

Hello, All, I have been searching for years for our Soloman S. Collins, born in Illinois in 1862. Census forms say his parents were both born in Maine. We know his father's name was John R. Collins. He married Susie May Kachel in 1902, probably in Oklahoma. They had: Eva Pearl, Arthur Frank, Albert Soloman, Gladys May, Elvin Roy, Opal Hannah, Ira Leroy, and Violet May. Soloman and Susie May divorced and Soloman died in 1940 in Olathe, KS, and Susie May died 1955 in Raymore, MO. If anyone has any further info on Soloman's parents and ancestors, I would appreciate it. I have much info on the Kachels. Thanks Ginnie Collins
Hi Liz, My Gt-gt- Grandfather was Cornelius Collins (son of Richard Collins). Cornelius Collins was born in County Cork, Ireland around 1827 and came to England as a young man. It is not known whether or not his father Richard ever came here too. What I am trying to say is that, although I cannot immediately connect with the names and dates you give, Richard is a very common name in my Collins family. Cornelius had 6 children, Julia, Cornelius, Richard (my Gt. Grandfather), Daniel Mary and Patrick. Richard Jr was a great traveller who spent much time in the US and South America before settling down and having a family. You may already know this, but Collins is a very common name in County Cork and all of my Collins relations originate from the Bantry Bay/Skibbereen areas. Hope some or all of this helps! Clare in England. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 18 October 2004 00:31 To: [email protected] Subject: [COLLINS-L] Timothy Collins of Detroit Please excuse cross postings. Hi all, I'm new to the list. I've been slowly working on the history of my father's side of the family for almost 2 years now. I've come to a stuck point and hope that someone out there can help me out. I have very little information on the Collins branch of the family: my grandmother was Ella Charlotte Collins McGough born in Detroit, MI in 1891 her parents were Timothy Collins born in Detroit, MI 1858 and Anna Furlong Collins born in Detroit, MI 1861 Tim's parents were Richard Collins born in Ireland about 1816 and Ellen Culhane (I think) Collins born in Ireland about 1836 This is where I run into the problem ... Richard Collins became a citizen in 1856 indicating he arrived in the US no later than 1849 -- however, his naturalization papers have no other information -- no county where he came from in Ireland, no date of arrival in the US -- And to make matters worse his death certificate is apparently not filled out correctly it lists his parents as Richard and Ellen Collins (which seems to actually be his name and his wife's name). I did recently narrow down the possible churches they may have attended to just a couple. I will hopefully be able to go over the church records next time I'm in Detroit, around Christmas time. I already have the applicable census images, I know where they are burried, and I have addresses from the Detroit city directories. The other bit of information I have is that Timothy Collins owned T & R Collins Trucking (with his brother Richard) I know that it was in operation from (at least) before 1905 till 1929. My requests: If anyone is also researching this family I'd love to share information. And I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to find out the names of Richard & Ellen's parents, where they came from in Ireland, etc... Generally where do I go from here? Thanks in advance for any information and suggestions you can give me. -Liz McGough ==== COLLINS Mailing List ==== ~*~To subscribe & unsubscribe send to [email protected] (mail mode) or [email protected] (digest mode) with the word SUBSCRIBE -or- UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line & first line of the body. ~*~If your e-mail address changes, please unsubscribe your old address, and subscribe your new address. ~*~To post a message so everyone on "both" -L- & -D- mailing list receives it, just send it "once" to [email protected] ~*~Barbara V.
