The Collins descendants I am interested in specifically came from Cork (to NYC) about 1860. Names are Thomas Collins, Bernard Ambrose, Daniel Francis Collins, and Jerome J. Collins. Jerome lived in NYC, died in 1881, Daniel Francis ended up in Wisconsin, died around 1901, Bernard perhaps went to England and started a branch there known for naming the first son, John Jerome. Thomas died in Cork, perhaps a tragic hunting accident (circa 1860).
Anyone know who William Collins' parents were? The Ledger-Independent, Maysville, KY April 15, 1970 Pg 8A Mrs. Oda Combess Mrs. Oda Collins Combess, 87, a resident of Salem Ridge in Bracken County, died at 11 p.m. Monday in Hayswood Hospital. She had been in frail health for four years and death was attributed to complications. Mrs. Combess was born December 9, 1882 in Robertson County. Her parents were the late William and Frances Stribling Collins. In 1906 she was married to William Combess and his death occurred in 1934. She is survived by three children who are Mrs. Marie Bussell of Maysville, Andy Combess of Longootee, Inda., and Perry Combess of Brooksville. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in August's McCarty and Metcalfe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Maplegrove Cemetery at Germantown. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 4 p.m. today.

Charles married (Baltimore,MD) to Eliz. Chisley. Charles died at sea somewhere around Chesapeake bay, about 1807-10. He left 2 small sons the mother was unable to care for. She placed them in indenture to farmer and harness maker. Many years they were all reunited. Does anyone know anything about what happened to the family and anything about Charles background? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Frank, I'd like to ask a question about Levin Collins. I'm having very little luck locating my husband's family. They were from Maryland and Delaware. I have only got back to a William Collins, born in MD. somewhere around 1835 - 39. His son William Collins was born 8 Nov 1859 in MD. Thing is, this William Collins had a son named Levin, b. 28 June 1895. I think it is an unusual enough name that it might indicate a family connection. Don't suppose you might know anything about these folks? Thanks, Karen Collins Columbus, OH ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Collins" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 28, 2005 10:16 PM Subject: Re: [COLLINS-L] Collins DNA study > Just received my kit from www.relativegenetics.com. Frank, Could you share a bit more information about Thomas Collins (1635-1687), Northampton County, VA, and his "line" if you have it? -----Original Message----- From: bruce collins [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, May 29, 2005 3:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [COLLINS-L] Collins DNA study Hello, Frank, I'd like to ask a question about Levin Collins. Just received my kit from www.relativegenetics.com. I ordered the 24 marker test for $155. I will send it in on Monday. As far as Levin Collins goes, I have several in my database, but I don't have one born around 1784. The older ones appear to tie into the Thomas Collins line (1635-1687), Northampton County, VA. There are probably Will and other records out there. The Nabb Research Center in Salisbury, Maryland would be a great place to start. These Levin Collins appear in Someret County, MD in the early 1700s, and some are later found in Worcester County, MD and Sussex County, DE. --- Rose Lowther <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi. Hi. I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my posts about the Collins DNA study. I received A LOT of responses both ON and OFF list. Please bear with me, and give me a bit of extra time to respond as it will take time to sort through and respond to these messages, especially family groups that were sent in. Please keep in mind I've had little time this past week to devote to genealogy as my 10 year old had pneumonia. By, the way, does anyone know a any descendants of Levin Collins born 1784 MD/DE who died in Upshur County TX in 1855. His wife's name was Anna and his children Seaborn Key Collins and Elizabeth Collins married into the Satterwhite family in Troup County GA before moving to Texas. Any info you can provide on this family would be helpful. Thanks, Rose

Could I send my Collins line even though I am female and I have direct males that might participate?
I certainly hope the results are eventually made available on the web for those of us whose Collins surname is several generations back. Christina William Richison Collins line
We've been using www.relativegenetics.com, and are very happy with them. I believe some of these other companies (genetree and possibly others) use the same lab (Sorenson), which is the same one relative genetics uses. Ybase is one of the websites where you can compare your DNA results against other DNA participants from other studies, but you have to manually enter your results in the database... Not all participants may chose to do so, which is why it's available on a case by case basis. Once you sign up for the study, you get a user id and a password to the Collins results website. It has personal info (names, addresses, emails, family trees) so it's password protected, and available to any study participant. We're still in phase one of the study, so we're not yet ready to "publish" results on the web, but I'm sure that will happen in the future. If I haven't addressed all of your questions, please let me know... Where are the Collins DNA marker tests posted? They seemed to imply Collins were tested on their sites, but nothing was listed. Let me know your recommendations. I have my favorites based on what is offered on their websites and the prices. Frank --- Rose Lowther <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi.
