    1. Martin COLLINS of Cole Co MO.
    2. Freida Wells
    3. Greetings, I am seeking any information on the parents of Martin COLLINS bn abt 1813 in Tennessee that married Malinda JOBE 11 Nov 1834 in Jefferson City, Cole Co Missouri, d/o James M. JOBE and Margaret “Peggy” STONE. She was born Abt. 1813 and died 15 Jul 1845. She left husband Martin and five small daughters, Mary W., Margaret. Clarissa, Malinda and Sarah J. Also what became of him after the death of his wife. I have not been able to locate Martin and the girls on any census after 1850 when Martin and the girls where living next door to Malinda’s parents in Cole County. I am wondering if Martin remarried? And what happened to the girls? If anyone out there is connected to this COLLINS line or has any information regarding this line, please contact me. Thank you for your time and help. 1. New Call for Participants -- Collins DNA Study
    2. Rose Lowther
    3. The Collins DNA study is attempting to document all the different lines of Collins via genealogical information as well as via genetic paternal lines. Without getting too techinical, certain generic genetic infomation is passed from father to son on the Y chromosome that can be compared and can be used to show whether different subjects descend from a COMMON ANCESTOR. This information is used in the study to help match family lines together. For example, my Collins ancestor born in 1785 in SC was a brick wall, we suspected a family relationship but had no real proof. My brother (a male descendant ) and a male descendant of a suspected male Uncle to my ancestor contributed DNA (collected from a qtip rubbing on the inside of one's cheek) and the two profiles are identical--thus proving tha! t they come from the same COLLINS family line. So one shouldn't be concerned about "personal genetic information" being distributed-- this test either proves or can eliminate whether family lines come from a COMMON ANCESTOR. The purpose of the study is to collect samples from as many well documented Colonial and Early American Collins lines as we can identify in order to build a good database. The expected outcome is to identify the various Collins lines in Colonial America and early America. A side benefit is that researchers who are battling brick walls may be able to identify a specific direction to focus their research upon... This is especially true for areas where County records are burnt or were destroyed during the Civil War. We need documented lineages from colonial lines and Early American (pre 1800) Collins families. We would like to see all of the original 13 colonies represented: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. We'd also like to see Collins from the early American territories, such as KY, TN, IL. just to name a few.. It may be possible to locate an interested sponsor who is willing to cover the $155 cost of the test if the cost is too prohibitive, although a waiting period may be involved. IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE, you must be descended for a SOLELY paternal line of Collinses, for example a son of a son of a son, etc., all the way back to the earliest Collins male ancestor in your line. If you agree to participate, the DNA collection kit (instructions and Qtip-like swabs) will be mailed to you. Once you rub the qtips on the inside of your cheek you mail the sample back to Relative Genetics (the testing lab in Utah) and in 3-4 weeks the results will be available for the study. One other requirement of the study is that along with the DNA sample, that you provide Names, dates of Birth and places of Birth for your paternal ancestors (basically an abbreviated paternal family tree). 3. Moses Collins was born about 1753 possibly in NC. He married Hannah Willis about 1774 and he died about 1816 in Mississippi after having moved to MS from the Ga/SC area about 1811. He had several children. His sons who had male issue are listed below: 1. JOSEPH COLLINS, b. March 31, 1779 (died near Grenada MS) . 2. MOSES COLLINS JR., b. July 16, 1781, Winton (Barnwell) South Carolina d. October 04, 1855, Desoto Parish, LA. 3. SEABORN COLLINS, b. January 22, 1796 GA died 8 Feb 1868 Yazoo County, MS I'm looking for ANY Collinses descended from these boys. My goal is to find a suitable male subject (a male Collins descended from a straight Collins male paternal line back to Moses Collins) who is willing to participate in the Collins DNA study. Any help would be appreciated. I've found three males in this line thus far, but none of them were interested in taking part in the study -- even at no cost. Any help would be appreciated. this is a tough line to work. Rose Collins Lowther Collins DNA Study Co-Coordinator

    2. Frank Collins
    3. Hi Matt, All, Thanks for sending the information my way. It appears I fit into haplogroup I1c (also known as I2). From the internet I found, I1c is a smaller group mainly found in western Europe 2000 years ago. Many of its members were in western England. (Hence some refer to the group as Celtic). A show called "Journey of Man" on PBS or the National Geographic Channel does a good job explaining genetic mutation and migration. The show is probably too elementary and doesn't get into the specifics of DNA mutation, but it is definitely worth watching. The real value will be when when other male Collins who fit into Collins Eastern Shore trees take the DNA test. I have a few branches of the "Abraham Collins (1648-1719)" tree I would like to verify. I would also like to see if any of the other Collins lines on the shore connect with this line. I will be putting my results on my website in the near future www.collinsfactor.com and will send some email looking for more Collins males to take the test. 1. RE: [COLLINS-L] LEVIN COLLINS FAMILY OF UPSHUR TX (breakthrough)--MORE DESCENDANTS in COLEMAN TX
    2. Rose Lowther
    3. I'm searching for a Levin Collins male descendant (descended solely from Collins male descendants of Leven)... Here's a bit more info on possible leads: The 1900 Census for Coleman TX shows the following heads of Households and their dependants... I used Ancestry.com but don't have the census subscription right now (I couldn't read the handwriting very well so I didn't renew that portion). Can anyone tell me how the children match up to the household heads. I'm pretty sure this is really just one large family split into three households. HEADS: Henry W. Collins, Jr. and wife Minnie Collins both born @ 1857 Littleton E. Collins born @ 1855 and wife Cora Collins born @ 1860 LORE (Lourana or Lorraine) Collins (mother of the two men listed above - widow of Henry W. Collins, Sr.) born @ 1835 DEPENDANTS (males): (I'm interested in the males for the Collins DNA study) Frederick W. Collins b. about 1890 Harry. H. Collins born @ 1898 L. E. Collins born [email protected] 1898 Littleton B. Collins [email protected] 1892 Morgan B. Collins b. @ 1897 Willie H. born @ 1888 DEPENDANTS (females): Annie L. Collins born @ 1891 Clara T.
