    3. The information I have on the Elisha Collins of Delaware is piecemeal, My main focus is another Collins line in the area. 3. I'm sorry not to be clear. I thought what I said was enough for someone to recognize Elisha Collings. There's more, but it may be confusing. Mary Depray m Jehu Staton 1 Jan 1765 in Sussex Co., DE Eliz. Depray m Elisha Collings date unknown. Source is her father's (John Depray) will. Jehu Staton names his nephew, James Staton Collings in his will dated 25 Dec 1772, probated 1773. He was son of his sister Rebeccah. James Staton Collins/ings was b 1755 either in Talbot or Cambridge, MD. Both names (James Collins and Elisha/Elijah Collins) names appear in Allegany Co., MD records in or around 1800. Both names again appear in Fairfield Co., Ohio records in 1806. Elisha Collins' name disappears from FCO records. But an Elisha (spelling?) Collins appears in the Pensioner's Index 1840 for Shelby Co., IN. Age 49, which can't be right. I haven't checked this out yet. 3. The Collins in NC that I'm looking for are in the Craven County are in the 1750's and 1760's. John and George (Moses and James) had land in Goshen Swamp near present day Kinston, I think. They also show in the 1755 Beaufort Poll tax listing (George, John and James are all white and over 16 years of age). There is also Samuel and Joseph had land on Slocumb Creek also in Craven County. Samuel and Joseph's father appears to have been a John Collins who died in Craven County about 1750. Joseph and Samuel are the only sons listed in the will index. Does anyone have any further information, or other records mentioning Collins deeds in Craven County prior to 1780? -----Original Message----- From: Penny [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2005 7:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [COLLINS-L] Collins in NC Hi Carol, I am also interested in this family as I strongly believe them to be my 4th great grandparents. 3. In my Great-Uncle Ralph Collins research done back in the 70's & 80's, he determined that the William Collins who lived and owned land in Nansemond County, Virginia and later North Carolina, particularly the 1694 Patent on Queens Graves Swamp, was the son of our immigrant ancestor James Collins. James Collins came to Virginia in early 1664 and received a land patent for 400 acres in Nancimond County, Virginia, 11 March 1664 (Nugent, p.195). James Collins had paid the way for John Bennet, Richard Harris, Nathaniel Gordon, Daniel Mackneal, and four others. Boddie's Historical Southern Families volume II p.103 related the arrival of Henry Gay and family from Kent and Devon, receiving 300 acres on 8 February 1663, on the west branch of the Nansemond River. On 22 April 1669, Henry Gay obtained a grant from Governor Sir William Berkely in the "Upper Parish of nansemond - adjacent to the lands of James Collins." The 1704 landholdings show William possessing 1,220 acres in Nansemond County. The Collins property in Virginia was very close to the North Carolina line, and descendants of James acquired additional land in North Carolina. James himself seems to have crossed into Perquimans County, North Carolina, where his will was probated on 19 May 1730, with his son William as executor of his estate along with James' second wife Lucee. His will also mentions a daughter named Alie Collins, however, in the will of his wife Lucee, she is mentioned as a daughter-in-law as well as William listed as son-in-law. Lucee died about the same time, as her will was also probated on 19 May 1730. A son, Thomas, was born by the second wife. In 1720, William sold land in Chowan County, North Carolina. Descendants of William's son John, namely Demsey Collins, do indeed end up in South Carolina - Marion County. I don't have your William Collins and Elizabeth Bashaw in my files, but that doesn't mean there isn't a connection.
