    1. [COLLINS] John COLLINS
    2. Every time I see a John COLLINS in the subject line, I keep hoping it might be one from Pennsylvania. So far, no luck. Seems like most of the COLLINSes headed for warmer climes! Anyone out there researching John COLLINS (b. about 1720, early settler in the Lack twp., Lancaster/CumberlandMifflin/Juniata County area), his wife Catharine, his children Margaret (married to John McEVER/McKEEVER, etc.) and Brice (wives Ann _____ and Martha _____)? Allied lines for Brice's family are HUNTER, CUNNINGHAM, STARKEY, SCOTT, and COLEMAN. An interested COLLINS descendant. Lorraine [email protected]

    3. Marie, Your Garland Collins was half brother to my husband's Thomas Collins (1789-1832) married Frances Kavanaugh Woods; Their son, William Collins (1811-1846) married Elizabeth Alexander; their daughter Jael Ann Collins (1836-1926) married Daniel T. Smith and they were my husband's great-grandparents. I have Garland Collins died before May 18, 1846 in Howard Co. MO; married Elizabeth Moberly in Madison Co., KY November 1, 1798. However, I have their daughter, Permelia Collins married Jonathan Todd January 1, 1838 in Howard Co., Missouri. I don't have their children. Could you please add to my database? PS. 2. My Collins line is Luther Hamilton Collins, born April 1882, death certificate says Georgia, his children said Texas and several of the census state Mass. Death certificate says, of course, father John Collins and mother, Mary Collins. The family lived in Newberry SC until about 1914, moving to Portsmouth, Va. Luther was killed in an accident at the ship yard in 1934. I can find nothing on his family. So, I would love to have Thanksgiving dinner with my grandfather. 1. [COLLINS] My Collins line
    2. Jesse Collins married me Brenda McDonald Collins (I think the McDonald clan was born under an oak tree in Savannah because we can find nothing past gg grandfather.) This is the line backwards: Jesse Collins b. 1956 Joseph Henry Collins b. 1929 Jesse Jasper Collins b. 1865 Michael Collins b. 1823 James Collins b.1780/1790 Joseph Collins b. 1724 (Can't prove this. But if you look at the family names....Joseph Henry) Here is another note: My grandmother was a Collins..don't know further back than her father. You see the Collins, the Kennedy's, the Summerlins, the Lynn's, the Anderson's and the Hollands all married each. Evidently, they all traveled together and didn't "get out much." Brenda McDonald PS How I put 2 and 2 together about the Collins of my husband's side is that some of them are buried in the same cemetery as my grandmother-Sarah Isabella Jinnette Barrow. "What a tangled web we weave" I think this is old James and Old Joseph's moto.

    3. One thing is for certain: if we were able to invite all men named "John Collins" to our dinner, we would have to rescind the troops in Iraq to help cook and serve the meal. Fortunately, my great-great grandfather, John Collins (b. circa 1802, near Monroe, NC) had the wisdom to marry a woman named Pleasant making him somewhat (operative word!) easier to trace. 3. Well, I have a few "John" Collins(s). ( I really don't know how to pluralize that one...it's as hard as trying to do more than one Thomas! I have a John Collins born about 1777 in South Carolina..............no wife listed. He appears to be the father of my Joseph Collins, also born in South Caroline, that married Elizabeth Lantrip (SC). Joseph was born about 1800. They had a son John H. Collins (along with 9 other children) born about 1825 in Christian County, Kentucky. John H. married twice: (1) Tennessee Virginia Duncan born in Christian County, Kentucky and (2) Sarah Elizabeth Fowler, born in Tennessee. Saran and John had a son, John W. born in 1870. Tennessee Virginia was the mother of a son, Joseph, born about 1854. Joseph and Elizabeth also had another son, Shadrack that married a sister to Tennessee Virginia, Mary Ann Duncan. They also had a son, John Riley Collins born in 1863. I have to agree that it would be a BIG dinner just to serve all of those 'Johns", but WOW! would it ever be fun to interview them! Wheeeeeeee. 3. For some reason I missed seeing the original message from the list administrator about this 'roll call' talking about who we would like to come to our Thanksgiving Dinner of our ancestors and what we would ask them. But I am thrilled to have the opportunity to do this since I have been unable to find so little about my GGgrandfather Jacob Collins and most of his children. You would think that since he isn't so many Greats backwards that it would be easier. Gosh in some of my other lines I have grandparents many generations further back...but unfortunately this particular grandparent has continued to be elusive although his wife ancestry was a wealth of information due to help from other of her distant cousins. They just knew next to nothing about poor Jacob. Jacob Collins b. abt 1839 in Maryland according to the 1880 census m. Lorenia "Rene" Goshorn b. Bet. 1838 - 1840 in either Indiana or Ohio (her parents were Matthew & Hester WILEY Goshorn) Children: Emma Ritta COLLINS Livingston b. 16 Nov 1862 in Union City, Indiana, d. 18 Apr 1943 in Lightsville, Darke Co, Ohio Matthew M. Collins b. Abt. 1865 in Ohio Laura Ann Collins b. Abt. 1868 in Ohio Mary A. Collins b. Abt. 1870 in Ohio George W. Collins b. Abt 1873 in Ohio Kate "Katie" Collins b. Abt 1875 in Ohio Rosa E. "Rosie" Collins b. Abt 1879 in Ohio Wesley Collins b. After 1880 in Ohio William Collins b. After 1880 in Ohio After Lorenia died, Jacob placed most of the children in the local 'poor farm' or asylum...since he had no one to care for them when he went to work and was too poor to pay someone. Some of the younger children may have been unofficially adopted by other families since they were so young. Most of the children died at the poor farm. It is believed that Kate "Katie" Collins survived her life in the 'poor farm', and had a child there who may also have survived. My Great Grandmother, Emma Ritta, being old enough to work was sent to live with a family named Tucker Young Family, who she must have worked for in exchange for room & board. Needless to say, I wish I could have all of the above family to attend Thanksgiving Dinner, so that I could hear their life stories, and also find out from Jacob who his ancestors were and his family story. If anyone out there knows anything at all about this Collins family it would be the most wonderful gift you could give me if you shared what you know with me. Carrol in Michigan

    2. Brenda, I too am glad to claim my Collins inheritance, both lines :) even though I don't carry the name Collins - I do have the Collins blood. I am thankful that Mom stress in later years what mattered most was family. She was the one that insisted that I research her Collins lines even though she would get upset with some of the details I found out. :) At Thanksgivivng Dinner I would want James and Fanny there so we could ask our questions and finally get the answers of Fanny parents were as well as James, Joseph and John so that we wouldn't assume or speculate. What fun we would have hearing all their "tales" that I'm sure would be included. Thanks to all of the Collins' descendants that are researching our lines and other Collins' lines as sometime in the future who knows, we just might find some connections that we never had suspected was ours. So from my direct line of Collins may I say have a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays enjoy every minture you have with your family because all to soon we lose our loved ones. Brenda, I sent off the envelope of pictures to you yesterday. I still have a couple to locate and get up to you. Ellen

    1. Re: [COLLINS] John R. Collins
    2. My James Collins was married to Mary Kirtley in Orange Co., VA. She was the dau. of Col. Francis Kirtley and Margaret Roberts Kirtley. Mary was b. ca 1735 and d. 1796 in Madison Co., KY...James Collins' will was dated 1781, in Culpeper Co., VA...He had five sons, Francis, James, Tandy, Thomas, and John Collins; daughters Mary, Margaret, Milley, and Ann. Ann, daughter of James and Mary, married Edward Collins, Jr. May 1781 in Orange Co., and moved to Rockingham Co., VA. She died 1786 leaving two small children, James and John. John was b. 1782, and James was b. 1784...John went to TN and James went to KY....Edward, Jr. was the son of Edward, SR, who married Jane Jones. They had James, John, Mordeci, Lewis Dillard, Richard T., Edward, and daughters Jane, Mary, and Elizabeth. Edward, Sr. was son of John and Ann Cook, and grandson of Joseph and Susannah Lewis...Joseph and Susannah had a James who went to NC, William, Thomas, Lewis, Ann, Mary, Tabitha, Catherine, Susannah.... Every generation from Joseph and Susannah had a James, John and Lewis... I have all of this in a little better form than what I'm sending here, however, if you have a "Lewis", chances are you go back to Joseph and Susannah Lewis Collins...I can send you all of this info if you think it connects with yours. I haven't proven my James Collins' parents, but he had to be connected to Joseph in some way, and a cousin of Edward, Sr...There is the Roberts family involved as well as John Robinson's family... Bev

    2. For those of you that are not on the Cox family list you probably do not know about the interesting genealogy networking that is going on. It has to do with Thanksgiving. We are all reviewing ancestors and asking questions to see if anyone has answers to some of the questions or the mystery that we are trying to solve. Consider the following: Who would you invite to your Thanksgiving Dinner? Me? I would invite Old Joseph Collins, James Collins, and Jesse Collins of Bertie County. I would ask the following questions: Is James really your son? Who is his mother and when was he born? Jesse, did you know that you had a gg nephew that bore your family name and that his grandson also bares your name. Do you all know that this same Jesse Collins named his son Jesse Collins because only the name of Jesse Collins would due for the lineage of the Collins men? During this Thanksgiving season I am truly thankful that I have married into this family of Collins with its mystery, its patriots of Joseph and John that dared to defy the King of England himself to help this great nation be formed, and all generations of family and genealogist that I have found doing this research. How truly I am blessed to be called Collins, a family member of each of you on this list. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving! Brenda McDonald Collins

    1. [COLLINS] HUGHES, MCANULTY, COLLINS and WALDRON Families of Birmingham
    2. Carolyn Prellwitz
    3. I am seeking information on the HUGHES, MCANULTY, COLLINS and WALDRON families in Birmingham and am hoping someone on this list-serv may also be researching these families. Patrick MCANULTY born about 1806 in Ireland, died 1881 in Birmingham. Occupation 1841 Traveller, 1851 Hawking Silk Mercer, 1861 Clothier, 1869 Tailor, 1881 Tailor. At some point, Patrick married Jane LAMPREY. Jane was born about 1816 in Barnstaple, Devon and died before 1891. Together Patrick and Jane had nine children - Ann born about 1835, Elizabeth born about 1837, Charles born about 1839, John born about 1841, Mary born March 16, 1843, Jane born about 1848, Agnes born about 1851, Patrick A. born about 1858 and Catherine J. born about 1861. Patrick and Jane's daughter, Mary MCANULTY, worked as a tailoress in 1869 through to her death in 1901, with one stint as a charwoman. Mary married Patrick Joseph HUGHES in 1869. Patrick was born about 1846 in Ireland to John and Catherine HUGHES. (John HUGHES was a cordwainer/shoemaker in Birmingham as listed on the 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 census information.) Patrick Joseph HUGHES, husband to Mary MCANULTY, worked as a tin plate worker. Patrick Joseph HUGHES died in 1890. Patrick HUGHES and Mary MCANULTY had 5 children all born in Birmingham - Norah Mary Hughes born about 1871, Joseph Bernard Hughes, born December 8, 1873, Agnes Hughes born about 1879, Malachi Hughes born about 1882 and Margaret Hughes born about 1884. Norah Mary HUGHES married John MALPASS IN 1894. They had at least one child, Norah M E Malpass, born about 1900. In 1894 John was working as a tubo drawer and in 1901 as a blacksmith labourer. Norah Mary was working as a tube charger employee in 1891. Joseph Bernard HUGHES was a brass bedstead worker. He married Elizabeth COLLINS in 1900. Elizabeth was born December 25, 1880 in Smethwick. Joseph Bernard HUGHES and Elizabeth COLLINS had 2 children, Bernard Hughes, born July 12, 1901 and Charles Hughes, born 1903. Elizabeth and the children emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada about 1912 or so. I do not know what happened to Joseph Bernard Hughes. Elizabeth's second husband was Matthew Henry WALDRON. She and Matthew had 2 children together: Ron Waldron born in 1909 and Ruth Waldron born in 1912. Hopefully, one of the names listed above will register with someone. Thanks. Carolyn Canada

    2. Sheri Kelly
    3. Kim, I am interested in Duncan Collins. I have not been able to tie Seaborn/Ceborn to Duncan born c1807. Can you help? Sheri in Tennessee Kim <[email protected]> wrote: Can anyone help me with this name: Duncan Collins he was born in Tennessee I believe Grainger Tennessee. He had a son named Ceborn Collins. I am not sure of the dates because I lost all of the genealogy on my computer. Does anyone have any information on this Collins Line? I do know that my Collins line is Cherokee. My great grandmother Italy Lee Collins was born June 11, 1902 and she was Indian but she was also part something that I am not sure of. I think Duncan was born around 1807 or somewhere in there. Any help will be greatley appreicated! Kim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wanda Nelsen" To: ; Sent: Sunday, November 05, 2006 9:14 PM Subject: Re: [COLLINS] NARCISSA COLLENS > Hello.
