    3. Collins listers. Has anyone out there ordered that book on the Collins Family as listed at this web site: http://www.genealogytoday.com/roots/xweb.mv?xc=Product.Order&xo=higginson&xt=HIGGINS-C&xn=16&xr=388&sn=Collins&xz=surnamef I am a bit concerned about buying something that has no details in the credits. Maybe someone has read it and can say if it is useful. Maybe someone has a used copy they want to sell for less. I am tracing the family of William C Collins, b. ~1795, ?, wife, maybe Jane ?, b. ~1805. Bits of info I have found in the last two years indicate that he served in the Creek Indian Wars, got land in Jackson Co, AL, started a family, sold his AL land in 1831 and went to Illinois to serve in the Illinois Militia during the Black Hawk Wars, (several Collins families made the same move because ex-military from GA/TN/SC/NC got script from the Gov't for land in IL/MO/AR Terr.) then he sold and went to Texas, got land in Nacogdoches Land District, TX, before 1840 (Smith Co today), then sold and went to Cass Co, TX in 1850, where he apparently died. In regards to the book, maybe this William has a link to a Collins line in GA/TN/KY/SC/NC. Porter Click 1284 Crabapple Rd. Big Sandy, TX 75755 [email protected]

    3. Dear Collins listers : Quite amazed at the amount of message traffic , I know find on this surname. Keep up the good work, so here is a bit more that I hope will ring a bell with some of you..Here is a bit of their history, lot of speculation here, that's for sure, as you all know the surname is a difficult one to research. It's the key to much of my family history so I keep searching. My line of Collins, likely immigrated to the states ( no Idea how early, suspect around the 1820 time period from Northern Ireland , the Donegal County area. They came into the Port Philadelphia, went on to Schuylkill CO, the area of Pottsville, Suspect that they had close family friends and even relatives that came before them. Surnames such as Hanlin ( Hanlon ), Gallaghers and Rodgers. My great -grandfather, William Rodgers, of London ,married to a Catherine Collins, in Ireland , had a son, Dennis, my grandfather ,born about 1808 in Ireland, before immigrating to the states with his family. They settled in Schuykill Co. Pa.on arrivial in the states.Dennis later married Margaret Hanlin, daughter of my great-great grandfather, James Hanlin (aka Hanlon ) .James arrived at the port of Philadelphia. August 21, 1827.Settled in Schulykill Co. Pa., then married Bridget Quinalin, born Ireland 1806. They had several children before deciding to relocate to Ohio in 1833 The Dominic Gallagher family to make the trip with them. Dominic's wife, was Alice Collins, who we suspect was a sister of Catherine Collins that married my great grandfather. The Hanlin and Gallagher families relocated to Franklin Twp. Columbiana Co. Ohio, took up farm land and stayed there for many years. Lots of Hanlin, Rodgers/Rodger,Gallagher families lived in that area and likely are relatives. Very hard to connect them to each other. If you think yu have a connecting link to the families of this area ,found on the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census. Like to discuss that connection with you. Hoping that enjoy the upcoming Holidays.....Kenneth

    2. This is a long shot, but have any of you tried looking at the COLLINS famly who was in Quebec Canada in 1800? These people left Mass. in the late 1700's, then stayed a short time in Vermont before moving to West Brome Canada and later, St Hyacinth -- all in eastern Quebec. They weren't Torries, since they both were Rev. War Soldiers under George Washington. Children of these families began coming back to the USA around 1820-1830. Some stopped in Ohio and stayed a short time, and others went on to Illinios and Indiana. Just a suggestion, since many times you don't think to look in Canada when following a USA family..
