James Madison Collins was a son of John B. Collins of Lauderdale Co. Ms. His line is: James Madison Collins>John B. Jan 10, 1848, in MS. He married Amanda Elizabeth Ethridge and they were the parents of eight children. James Madison was in his mother's household of the 1870 Census of Lauderdale Co., MS. Their first 2 children, girls, were born in MS in 1870 and 1872. Their 3rd child, a girl, was born ca 1874 in Corsicana, TX. That 3rd child died ca 1876 Cleburne, TX. This 3rd child was not in the 1880 Census because she was born after the 1870 Census but died before the 1880 Census was enumerated. Their 4th child, a son, was born at Cleburne, TX in 1876. James M. Collins departed TX and arrived back in MS ca 1876 and had 4 more children. The 1880 Census showed his occupation to be "Farmer", suggesting that he may have farmed in both States during 1880. He eventually joined the Meridian, MS Police Dept., and was killed on Oct. 27, 1888, in the line of duty while trying to break up a gambling ring. Gil,   There's a James Howard Collins on Find a Grave buried in Swisher Cemetery, Lake Dallas, Denton County, Texas. http://tinyurl.com/James-H-Collins   On the memorial it says he was the husband of Ima Turbeville Collins, also buried in the same cemtery.  Here's the information posted on his second wife's memorial.  She died in 2008 and is buried in the same cemetery:   "Yippie" Avice Maye Collins, 94 of Argyle, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Rambling Oaks Courtyard Extensive Care Community in Highland Village. Yippie, daughter of Claude L. Hollandsworth and Mary Naomi Bell Hollandsworth, was born in Cooke County, Texas on September 5, 1913. She resided in Lake Dallas most of her life before moving to Lake Kiowa in 1977. Yippie moved to Argyle in April of 1998. Yippie married Louis R. Gross on October 15, 1934. Louis preceded her in death in August of 1969. She then married James H. Collins in 1973, who also preceded her in death in 1978. She is survived by her daughter, Kitna Armstrong and husband, Reese, of Grapevine; her son Greg Gross and wife, Barbara , of Argyle; her grandchildren Kelly Holcombe, Camron Gross, Nathan Way, James Cue and Jenifer Alyazdi; great-grandchildren, Ben Holcombe, Sarah and Zach Alyazdi. She is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ruby Howard, Grace Riley, Jewel Cochran and two brothers, C.L.
