    2. Vernon Collins
    3. I am looking for information on my great great great grandfather Peter Collins. According to family talebearers French Royalist refugees escaping France from the horrors of it's revolution shipwrecked off Lewes, Delaware, in route to Asylum Pennsylvania. The only known surviver was as infant, picked up on the beach in 1793 by a lighthouse keeper. This lighthouse keeper adopted the boy and gave him his name, Peter Collins. That is all I know about the lighthouse keeper. I do not know who my great great great grandfather married or how many children he had. The only child I do know about is my great great grandfather. His name is John P. Penrose Collins Born 11/23/1814, died 04/29/1893. He married Letty Marvel born 09/25/1810, died 02/11/1886. Both were burried in Union Cemetery, Georgetown, Delaware. John P. Penrose Collins and his wife Letty had at least eight children. Charles Henry Collins, Born 05/11/1843 in Georgetown Delaware and died 02/20/1901 in Wilmington, Delaware. He married Sara Ida Davis in 01/09/1872. These were my great grandparents. Other children by John P. Penrose Collins were Laura Collins. Laura married Theod. Freidenberger. Emma Collins, she married Christopher Oestreicher. Rachel Collins, she married Edward H. Trice in 02/10/1876. James Collins, he married someone by the name of Elizabeth. Edward Collins, he was unmarried and died at age twenty one. John Collins, born 1841, married Laura Evins in 10/04/1864. I have put in the birth, death and marriage dates that I know. I can go on through my grandfather's generation, and father's generation if some people are interested. If anyone has anything to add to my list of relatives please let me know. 3. I believe it is an excellent idea to post obituaries! Obituaries are public record and I don't forsee any legal complications resulting from the posting of public information. The name Pinkney Collins is interesting to me. I have a Pinkney W. Corbin born 2 Jun 1836 who married Catherine Collins 16 Oct 1856 in Russell Co., KY. Catherine was born 8 Dec 1835 in Adair Co., KY, the daughter of Thomas Collins and Nancy Ann Blakey. Knox Co., TN was the place that the Collins familly of Adair/Russell Counties, KY used when they wanted to elope. I don't have a Pinkney Collins in my data base but I can't help but wonder if he isn't part of this line because the name is unusual. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has more information on him. Ruth A. Collins/rac@azstarnet.com

    3. Until someone can determine whether we can legally post a full newspaper obituary, is it possible we could post in the following format? Granted it takes longer than cut and paste, but I'm willing to spend a few minutes to help someone else in the hopes that others will do it and possibly help me. William Luther JONES Age:38 Date of birth: Apr.10,1959 Place of birth: Danville, Va Date of death:May 30,1997 Place of death: Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville Va. 3. Referencing the posts from Sherry Crawford and John C. Collins [COLLINS Digest, V97:104.] I would love to see obituaries for COLLINS and related families on our list. However, I am not sure of the legality. I have no personal knowledge of the law, so don't count myself as an expert; however, this subject came up a couple of years ago on the web (I believe the question was discussed on Rootsweb] and it was brought to our attention that the Obits are the copyright material of the publishing newsletter. The individual who wrote said the newspaper she consulted would not give her permission to print the obits from their newspaper. I find this difficult to accept since the material must be submitted by a family member or the servicing funeral director, but this was the information submitted at that time. Does anyone have better/different information? If its legal, and Larry agrees, I say "Lets do it!" ..............................LaDoris >>Sherry Crawford wrote: >> >> I read several online newspapers in the areas I am researching, >> particularly the obituaries. 3. It is my understanding that in Dallas TX, the only major newspaper--The Dallas Morning News--charges to place an obit as well as wedding announcements, engagements, births, etc. I think they would have a hard time copyrighting paid advertising and announcements. Honey Lanham
