Hi! Am seeking info re my gggrandparents, JOHN COLLINS and MAHALA HOUSTON COLLINS. JOHN COLLINS ( b.? ;d ?, m1807) and MAHALA HOUSTON ( b.1793; d.1882, Milton, Fla.; m. 1807) settled first in Newberne, N.C., probably lived also in other areas of N.C. and later moved to Jefferson Co., Ga. They had six children: JAMES W. (b. 1812, no further info); NANCY A. ( b. 1817; d. 18380; MARY ELIZABETH ( b. 1820; d. 1838); JANE E. ( b.1821; d. 1838); WILLIAM D. J. ( b. 1823, N.C.; m. Permelia Dixon , 1847, Ala.; d. 1893, Milton, Fla.); SPENCER HOUSTON ( b. 1825, Jefferson Co., Ga.; d. 1907, Milton , Fla.) All three girls were said to have died in a flu epidemic in 1838. Mahala is listed as head of household in 1830 census in Jefferson Co., Ga. and then in 1840 a Mahala Collins is listed in the Baker Co. , Ga. census. At some point , she joined her sons, WDJ and Spencer in West Fla. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with a possible link to this Collins family. Thanks! Beth in Texas
Dear Shannon, Because of the name Harvey, and the St. Louis connection, I am forwarding this information on my grandfather: Fred Harvey Collins, said to have been born in East St. Louis, IL or St. Louis MO, in 1882. My birth certificate says MO, and my mother's says IL. The repository in IL says that there is no birth certificate for a Fred or Frederick Harvey Collins. There is a period after Fred. on my mother's birth certificate, so the full name may be Frederick Harvey Collins. Fred married Maud Yake about 1906. Two children, Alice Edith or Edith Alice (my mother) and Fred, JR. Please let me know if you see a possible connection here. Your John Harvey born 1822 could be Fred's grandfather ? Cousin, not on line, seeks information on Joel COLLINS, poss born Caroline Co VA, c 1745; poss s/o Richard COLLINS who died 1784 Charlotte Co., VA. and his wife, Mary [Madison?]. Richard COLLINS was s/o Thomas who was b. c1695 in perhaps King and Queen Va, and died in Sptsv. Va c1751/2. The will of Thomas named his (2d) wife Elizabeth w/ sons, Richard, Joyeaux, Thomas and William. Thomas' first wife may have held surname "Joyeaux"; sons Richard and Joyeaux were issue of this first marriage; Thomas and William from his union with Elizabeth. Thomas' brother, Joseph COLLINS [who + Susannah LEWIS] was named guardian of the three younger sons, Joyeaux, Thomas and William; Richard being of age. Cousin seeks proof of the above relationship, which she found in LDS 1994 IGI file while conducting a "parent search" for JOEL COLLINS. This undocumented source lists JOEL COLLINS as a child of Richard COLLINS and his wife, Mrs. Mary COLLINS. There are, immediately following on this sheet, the names of 4 daughters and 1 additional male child of this couple, apparent siblings to Joel COLLINS. These children are: Elizabeth; Catherine; Fellisha; William, and Nancy Collins. I am also interested in any replies since I claim descent from this Richard and Mary COLLINS. Notably absent from the IGI records is the name of my ancestor, Amelia Jane "AMY" COLLINS, who married Dec 12, 1793, Charlotte Co Va., Mastin Williams, s/o Thomas Williams [1833-1803] and his wife, Frances F-----------? I had not previously connected JOEL COLLINS, with Richard and Mary. The other female names listed in the IGI have been documented as sisters of my Amelia Jane "Amy" COLLINS. Is anyone researching these families? Are you able to clear any discrepancies occurring in the above data? I will appreciate any information, and will gladly share what I have. I will pass the information on to my "cousin", Anita Bruhnsen, and if you share a line with her, I will happily give you her snail mail address so you may communicate direct. TIA...........LaDoris eva@cvtv.net
Hi all: In chasing a branch of my COLLINS family from Co. Tyrone, Ireland to the USA, I have come across an article, written about 1980, that reads in part: "Dr. S.J. COLLINS [full name not given but thought to be "Samuel"] was born in Tennessee in 1835. His parents and an uncle had come from Ireland to this country [USA] a few years earlier. They settled in Tennessee, and, somewhat later, the uncle moved to Florida and established a furniture store in Tallehassee. His descendants, one of whom is LEROY COLLINS, former governor of Florida, still own and operate this store." I'm interested in connecting with anyone who knows the genealogy of the family of ex-Gov. LEROY COLLINS. Please reply directly to my email address as I'm not a regular subscriber of FLORIDA-L@rootsweb.com. Thanks for any help you can provide. John M. Flood <pwrchair@ocsonline.com> Just a quick but important message concerning E-Mail. This is to inform you of a very important matter currently under review by the FCC. Your local telephone company has filed a proposal with the FCC to impose per minute charges for your internet service. They contend that your usage has, or will, hinder the operation of the telephone network. E-Mail, in my opinion will diminish dramatically if users were required to pay additional per minute charges. The FCC has created a E-Mail box for your comments, responses must be received by February 13, 1998. Send your comments to "isp@fcc.gov" tell them what you think. Every phone company is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak it in just under the wire for litigation. Let everyone you know hear this one. Get E_Mail addresses to everyone you can think of. Forward this to your E_Mail friends and ask them to write to the FCC at the above address. We all must write and send to everyone we know to write also. We don't want or need extra charges for email. ___________________________________________________ >Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com >from Jeff Litster: I feel that we pay the phone companies plenty, and I think this is just a ploy so that the phone companies will not have to upgrade our unfit, worn down phone lines. I also think that they feel threatened that we're not making phone calls anymore because of e-mail, which in my opinion, is a crock. Let's get out comments to the FCC so that this stupidity is stopped! Who knows too, maybe this is a break that I-Link can use since they're trying to get that $20/month voice phone plan (long distance) going on anyway... =)
I am sorry if I am sending this to someone who has previously received it. Part of this is SPAM and/or a hoax! If your genealogy list does not accept such mail, pls delete it. I understand and there is no need to post me abt it. There is no no request for input from individuals. Do not post to the isp e- dress! In today's paper there is info on this. The request from the telephone companies is to charge our individual servers a by the minute charge. This, IF IT GOES through would likely increase our bills, but WE would NOT be charged by the minute. WRITE TO YOU SENATOR OR CONGRESSMAN AND ASK THAT HE VOTE AGAINST ANY SUCH increase to our servers. PLS post this to anyone to whom you have forwarded this message. Nancy S.
