    1. [Fwd: Texas Confederate Pension Link]
    2. Michael Davis
    3. To Collins-seekers, I am passing on this message that I received from another mail list I am on. I was able to find vital information on my COLLINS ancestor, William Gregory Collins by using this pension link. It is wonderful, easy and cheap. I spent less than $4.00 for photocopies of the applications for both my ancestor and his widow. It was well worth it. I was able to find out when and where my ancestors were born and married, and when & where William died. It also told me how long they had been in Texas, as well as giving me interesting information on my ancestor's state of health (very poor,) his financial situation (broke!), and other great stuff like where he enlisted, the names of his officers, and where he was wounded (right arm). For anyone else having Confederate ancestors from Texas, I highly recommend it! Michael Davis Tracy, CA

    1. Finding my grandfather and his folks
    2. Thomas J. Owens
    3. I'm back again with more information about Frank J. Collins, my maternal grandfather. I've acquired a marriage license and certificate from Norfolk, VA which states that Frank J. Collins was born in Greenville, Pa. in 1894 to Frank and Elizabeth (SP?) Collins. He was a seaman. I'd always understood he was a member of the Merchant Marines serving in Norfolk when he married my grandmother. If anyone is researching this branch of the family tree and has any info, please let me know. My grandfather married my grandmother on Nov. 5, 1917 but didn't live with her for very long. Family tales tell of him abandoning her and her infant daughter, my mother, Gertrude Schreiber (nee Collins) shortly after my mother's birth in August of 1918. Thanks so much, Glenna K. Owens -- Thomas & Glenna Owens email: towens@bright.net 1346 SR 89, #17 voice: (419) 281-1541 Ashland, Ohio 44805-9788 fax: (419) 281-1541 --To knock the chip off someone's shoulder, merely pat them on the back.

    3. -----Original Message----- From: Donald Ferguson [SMTP:tranquil@aros.net] Sent: Thursday, March 19, 1998 5:23 PM To: GER-RUS2@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU Subject: Troubling Occurance It has just been announced on the news that two LDS missionaries, one young man from Oregon and the other from Arizona, that were serving in the Russia Samara Mission were kidnapped on Wednesday and are being held for $300,000 ransom. Since the LDS Church, the Elders' families, and other U.S. authorities involved are being relatively tight-lipped (and rightly so, I'm sure), and since that region is a common one to many of us here, I'm wondering if there are any of our list that may have contacts in the region that may be able to provide more details, either information already known or as it develops (how's that for a run-on sentence?). May our prayers be with those young men and their families. Donald W. Ferguson Salt Lake City Researching: Bollig, Goetz, Katzdorn, Katzendorn, Katzentann; Volga villages of Herzog and Gattung
